Salazar Rules Blamed for Shell’s Departure
Colorado Observer. ^ | September 26, 2013 | Audrey Hudson

Posted on 09/27/2013 6:44:46 AM PDT by george76

A decision this week by Shell to shutter its oil shale operation in Colorado to pursue other ventures in Jordan and Canada highlights the difficulties faced by developers in the state as they wrestle with uncertain rules under the Obama administration.

Royal Dutch Shell was one of the most successful companies in the state in its efforts to develop a cost-efficient technique to extract oil from shale rock. But the final act of Ken Salazar as Interior secretary earlier this year to rewrite industry rules left companies in limbo with undeterminable royalty rates, and blocked them from obtaining leases for a majority of federal lands that hold two trillion barrels of recoverable oil.

Dan Kish, senior vice president for policy at the Institute for Energy Research and a former senior staff aide on Capitol Hill, said Salazar consistently opposed every effort to extract oil shale from the rich fields of Colorado, when Salazar served as Colorado’s Senator and after joining the Obama administration as Interior Secretary.

“Mission accomplished, Ken Salazar,” Kish said.

In statements to the press, Shell said its decision evolved from plans to develop other oil shale assets in the company’s holdings in Jordan and Canada.

...

The pending listing of the sage grouse as an endangered species in Colorado also threatens to add even more regulations to the industry and hinder development.

Kish compared the federal government’s actions to telling a company they can build a billion dollar car factory but can’t manufacture any cars.

“It doesn’t take a genius to figure out if you can’t make cars in the billion dollar factory, you’ll stop building the factory,” Kish said.

Oh yeah. It was deliberate. Kept finding new delays so the next appeal to the next administrative or legal step can include all of the old delays plus “one next step” ..... and a few million more penalties in new delays.

Blame Obama.

That's fine, but Ken Saladbar didn't need 0b0z0 to do this, he is a huge leftist scumbag in his own right.

And this is why oil exploration companies go overseas to drill for oil - the third-world tactics that have been adopted by the Current Regime now squatting in the White Hut make exploration in Nigeria and Libya look easy.

There is an anti-growth policy in place to follow the dictates of BANANA republics - Build Absolutely Nothing Anywhere Near Anybody. “Locking up” resources for “future generations” is just doublespeak for shutting down the engine of growth that is supposed to PAY for all this distribution of largesse to the masses.

There is a mechanism by which this may be done, efficiently and with minimal disruption, working with the natural inclinations of people by appealing to their acquisitive natures. Every time it is tried, it works, but this human enterprise keeps getting shut down because somebody, somewhere, is getting “too much”.

Boy a few infinitesimal advertising dollars (in big oil terms) spent for a bunch of ads exposing what the government is doing to our energy supply and how it affects our cost would be money well spent.

Expose the anti-business climate of the left. Don’t just pack up your equipment and slink off to another country. Let the low/no information voter know in a few hundred 15/30 second spots EXACTLY why you are leaving.

The energy industry (like many others) have tried the tight lip policy of trying to get along with both sides of the political aisle and IMO it is time to try the TRUTH for a change and expose the Emperor.

. . . blocked them from obtaining leases for a majority of federal lands that hold two trillion barrels of recoverable oil.

That's some serious oil money. Probably could pay off the National Debt with that.

Although I'd like that, the Companies need to watch their backs. Complain publicly and 'surprising' and 'unexpected' IRS audits and DOJ investigations start to show up. We have de-evolved into a lawless society. Washington, DC uses it forces to wield power, and they will make up the law as they go along.

That is why it has to be industry wide.

They have tried walking the tightrope with a power abusive government watching their every move.

If they do no change tactics, they cannot expect any change in the abusive power of government.

Thing of all the issues we have lost in the arena of ideas because good people chose to remain silent less they be shouted down by the loudmouths on the left.

Here are a few, feel free to add more.

Abortion
Gay marriage
Guns
Public Schools
Public sector Unions
Health Care
Public Pensions
...

We were shouted down by the Alinsky lovers under the fear of being called some PC incorrect name.

Where is Shell headquartered?

The headquarters of the parent company, Royal Dutch Shell PLC, is located in The Hague, Netherlands for tax policy. Registered offices are in London.

The US subsidiary, Shell Oil Company, is headquartered in Houston.

I think I can see that foreign companies are shedding their interests in America.

It is time (long past time) for Americans to stand up for our own country, and demand that also from each other.

Buy American.

Buy American.

Are we to disregard the tens of thousands of Americans who work for Shell Oil Company?

Are we to disregard the enormous contribution that Shell Oil Company makes to the American economy every year? All of that product produced, all of those supplies and equipment purchased, all of those profits that -- for the most part -- stay here?

Should we not welcome foreign investment -- since it represents jobs and business for Americans? And, in Shell's case, does it not represent innovation and advancement?

Disclaimer: I have absolutely nothing to do with any of the Shell companies -- except for an occasional fill-up (and, normally, I buy Conoco-Phillips).
