Senator Says Politics Have Reached Civil War Levels
National Journal ^ | September 27, 2013 | Matt Berman

Sen. Tom Harkin to Congress: "We are at one of the most dangerous points in our history."

As the clock ticks down toward a possible government shutdown, Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, isn't holding back.

On the Senate floor before 10 a.m. Friday, the senator gave a speech describing how American politics have reached the level at which "a small group of willful men and women who have a certain ideology"—read: the tea party and Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas—have been able to take over the congressional budget debate in the last week. "Since they can't get their way," Harkin said, "they're going to create this confusion and discourse and hope that the public will be so mixed up in who is to blame for this, that they'll blame both sides."

I believe, Mr. President, we are at one of the most dangerous points in our history right now. Every bit as dangerous as the break-up of the Union before the Civil War.

Harkin, do you remember which party forced the issue that led to the Civil War? Do you even remember what the issue was? Do you think it was a worthy cause?

Unfortunately, I think you are right: we are headed for some sort of show-down. But, it's because of your party's recalcitrance to read the writing on the wall, and your refusal to stop acting like tin-pot dictators.

These Senators and Representatives were elected to at least slow down the runaway federal government. And they are using the same procedures that your party has used to fuel and maintain the runaway federal government.

It takes two to tango. Every "threat" they have made would be meaningless unless you make a similar "counter-threat". You have tried to ignore the calls for fiscal restraint, and now you can't do it any longer.

Well, I would love to see Hairy Reed beat with a cane on the senate floor.

Harkin has a point. The half of America which didn't vote for ObaMao has no desire to serve as slaves for the other half.

Lincoln put it best when he stated that this country cannot forever remain half slave and half free.

We either all become slaves to the ruling class or we throw out the ruling class.

The ruling class can take a clean orderly exit like that of East Germany in 1989. Or they can make it a messy exit like that of Romania later the same year. The choice is theirs. If they choose chaos, there is no guarantee which direction it will take.

Boy these guys can’t wait for the fighting to break out.

They’ll be safe in their protected zones, and the poor folks they incite to engage in hostility will be slaughtered by the millions.

This guy should be jettisoned for even talking in terms like this.

. . . they've forgotten that neither Anglo-Saxons nor Native Americans make very good slaves . . .

As someone who shares bloodlines with both groups, I applaud your observation.

It has been said “The South shall rise again” and it has. There is no doubt this time that the south along with some other states are standing for what is right. Yankee states are almost all blue now.

Remember, Harkin (isn’t he the clown who lied about serving in Vietnam?), YOUR party, the DEMOCRAT PARTY is the one that supports:
Slavery (19th Century),
Segregation (20th Century),
and Infanticide (21st Century).

Would that it were true. The Republicans don’t have the stomach for a real fight, 98% being panty-waist poseurs.

Won’t be a civil war. Would be the Revolutionary war.

The problem is actually quite simple. One group of people have damaged civil society by using the power of government to seize the liberty and property of their fellow Americans. Now when someone breaks into my house to take my things and threaten my life, I’m likely to get a bit testy.

The left created this crisis, maybe intentionally so. They don’t believe in a Republic where the minority is protected from the depredations of the majority. They believe in raw democracy, the right of the majority to control the minority in virtually any way.

So don’t blame conservatives for this conflict. We didn’t ask for this. We didn’t want to fundamentally transform America. In fact, many of us just wanted to be left alone to live our lives in peace. The Democrats will not leave us alone! What else can we do but fight back?

Ok so the hardliner Bolshevik’s in the ruling class are worried that mere peasants are rising up against them. seems to me Senator Harkin is doing nothing more than parroting the words of King George some 237 years ago.

Instead of the Civil War, he really means the War of Independence.

Completely changes preception of what is at stake.

So the opposition party to the dems will die and the freedom oriented remnants will form a new party and the dems will be the losers of the war....again...

I see no downside to this....
