Unlikely Debate on Gay Rights in California Town (resistance to "month of gay pride")
New York Times ^ | September 26, 2013 | ADAM NAGOURNEY

PORTERVILLE, Calif. — The mayor of Porterville did not give it much thought when a local gay activist in this remote Central Valley farming town asked her to proclaim June a month of gay pride. But when the mayor, Virginia R. Gurrola, settled into her seat at City Hall to sign the proclamation, people were pouring out of the chambers and into the hallways, citing Scripture in opposition to what she had thought of as a simple ceremonial gesture. Her four fellow City Council members announced they would not join her in signing the document.

And as of last week, Ms. Gurrola was the former mayor of Porterville, voted out in a sudden reorganization meeting pushed by her dissenting Council members. The Council, over her objections, revoked the gay rights proclamation, replacing it with a more anodyne measure calling for “good will to all.” “This was nothing other than a desire to be inclusive as a community,” Ms. Gurrola said. “I never dreamed of the controversy it would create.”

“The proclamation was a proclamation,” said Ms. Gurrola, 62, the mother of three sons (and grandmother to seven) who is a retired director of admissions at Porterville College. “We could have gone on from there. We could have gone on and continued with the business of the city.”

Instead, the fight here stretched over a summer, angering stunned public officials and residents in a community where the Council is more typically embroiled in battles over sewer rates or a tire repair shop that wanted to open in a residential neighborhood.

The events in this small town stand as a reminder that at a time when many states are adopting same-sex marriage and other public support for gay rights has grown markedly, the issue is polarizing in many parts of the country.

I love how the homosexual complains: “they are accusing us of bestiality.”

Why does the homosexual infer that is a negative? Is the homosexual a bestiality-phobe? So much fear and hate against those that practice a “different type of love”. So much ignorance. I think he/she/it should be sent to sensitivity training and should stop being such a knuckle dragger. Thankfully closed minded homosexuals like them are quickly becoming the minority and, with the help of MTV, bestiality practitioners will be seen for the normal part of society that they are.

Homosexuals are sick and twisted, disease ridden, child molesting, abominable perverts that choose to be what they do. Sane, healthy, educated people from all over the planet reject the deviant homosexual "life style" the same way we reject the deviant life styles of any other individuals or group of criminals. For example, we don't endorse, worship or encourage the chosen behaviors of suicide bombers, mass murderers, drug dealers, pimps, burglars, rapists, extortioners, tax-evaders,....

In my humble opinion We don't need to declare a second, minute, hour, day, week, month, year, decade, century, or any other period of time as a period of time to pay homage to sick and twisted, abominations. Period.

Too many communities are standing by and watching this wave of perverts as they insert themselves into schools and recruit our children into their perverted practices.

Why should we accept perversion.
These people are not born queer, they are recruited, and now they are recruiting.

Young women are especially susceptible. They cannot see the harm in mutual masturbation leading to orgasm, and without the possibility of pregnancy, but before they realize it they are hooked.

Finally a good thing begins in small California town, most bad cultural movements begin in the state, and spread like wild fire.

Would that this spark of courage and common sense, shown by the towns people will spread like wild fire.

As a proud tax evader for two decades, I deeply resent your remarks. Apologize to me immediately.

They also want celebration of their lifestyle, which they've gotten from every politically correct institution in this country.

Shout it from the mountain tops, brother. We need more people to say it like it is. Homosexuals should never be allowed to be alone with children, especially to adopt them. They should be compared to the worst in society, like the drug addict or alcoholic. The homosexual ring leaders (ie Barney Franks of the world, with his leather belt around his neck) should be forced into mental institutions.

I never got the "pride" thing. When you break it down, it's men trying to mate with one another's poopy bungholes.

What are they proud of?

Yes, they want their lifestyles celebrated. I think adultery is wrong also, but when was the last time we saw an adulterer/adulteress pride parade?

For that matter, when did “pride” become a good thing?

Pride isn’t a bad thing, but the Pride of self worship is.

This was nothing other than a desire to be inclusive as a community,” Ms. Gurrola said. “I never dreamed of the controversy it would create.”

Inclusive? Why? Do you include rapists? Do you include pedophiles? NO? Then why include homosexuals? Thet are all perversions..
You did not think it would be a controversy? What planet are you from? The homosexual agenda is one of the most divisive agendas in America.
