Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel criticized Congress on Saturday as "astoundingly irresponsible" and said that using threats to shut down the government to satisfy a political whim is dangerously shortsighted.

Hagel, who oversees as much as half of the government civilians who would be furloughed next week if Congress doesn't reach a budget agreement, told reporters that the impasse threatens to delay paychecks to troops serving in Afghanistan.

"When you look at the greatest democracy in the world, the largest economy in the world and we're putting our people through this — that's not leadership. That's abdication of responsibilities," Hagel told reporters on his plane en route to South Korea. "This is an astoundingly irresponsible way to govern."

Hagel added: "It is really dangerously shortsighted and irresponsible, because what this will lead to in the United States of America, if this continues, is we will have a country that's ungovernable."

In other words, they are having a little harder time destroying our freedoms than they planned.

Good.

As I understand it the Bill sent to the Senate completely funds the entire government that is operating today. The only program not funded doesn’t begin until next week.

“astoundingly irresponsible”
**********************
That’s rich. This is a continuing resolution, now why would we need that? Do you imagine that some irresponsibility got us into this position?

>>we will have a country that’s ungovernable.<<

What do you mean “will have”? It has been ungovernable for the entire 21st century.

IIRC Obama said something about no leadership dis ing POTUS Bush, if continuing resolutions were needed under Bush term

I seem to recall that when 9/11 really did shut down the government, nothing substantial happened.

Hagel calls govt shutdown threat 'shortsighted'

Hagel, as a myopic-American I demand that you retract your insult of using a vision-normative term against the differently focused.

It shouldn’t be governable by the corrupt folks who run the government at this time. The anarchists are looking less and less crazy every day......

Hagel: another sheep in wolfs’ clothing. A “sellout” tool for the regime to misrepresent and destroy this republic. Anyone with true regard for our “Republic and for which It stands” would clarify, in any dialogue, that we are a Constitutional Republic and not a democracy, for if we were a democracy, we would already have been enslaved.

Pray for America!

Ungovernable?

Like Chicago?

Like Washington, DC?

Like the entire state of California?

Hagel told reporters on his plane en route to South Korea.

umm, why?

If the defense department is truly on the edge of an apocalypse, should he not remain stateside?
