Internal polling conducted by New Jersey senatorial candidate Steve Lonegans campaign and obtained by National Review Online shows Newark mayor Cory Bookers lead slipping to six points, 48 to 42. A Quinnipiac poll released last week had Booker leading Lonegan by 12 points, and even that poll was considered a positive sign for Lonegan, as previous tallies showed Booker well running ahead of the former Bogota mayor by over 20 points.
The latest internal numbers for Lonegan also show Bookers negatives inching up. Booker is 37-27 net favorable, a major shift from the 42-18 numbers he held two weeks ago, a memo from pollsters to the Lonegan campaign reads. Nonetheless, the pollsters find significant advantages for the celebrity mayor, who, they note, is still getting a significant share of the suburban and Republican vote.
Regardless, its clear that Booker, who was expected to waltz to victory in this race, now has a real contest on his hands.

If we retain this seat, we need only 5 senate seats in 2014. I encourage everyone to donate. Lonegan is a true conservative. He's no Gabriel Gomez, and it looks like he's getting poll points out of every dollars.
Sorry... internal polling tends to be highly suspect...
Back in late October, I can remember Mitt Romney’s internal polling showed him nearly even with Obama in MI, WI and PA, and ahead in OH, VA and FL.
We know how that all turned out...
Bear in mind, Booker’s poll numbers have been falling in statewide polls since those mini scandals.
This guy’s main problem is that he’s just NOT SOCIALIST ENOUGH for the Democrat base in NJ.
If the Pubbies were smart they’d fund a third-party Liberal extremist challenger to split that vote.
We need a greeny!

But Lonegan is no Myth, he’s the real deal.
Rather than the Romney path, this could be more the Brown path. At least for the election where Brown won... when he was at least articulating the Conservative message.
I live in New Jersey and have worked in Tea Party efforts very close to the town of which Lonegan was the Mayor.I have been BEYOND impressed by his organization,Americans for Prosperity, his highly skillful msrketing, his relentlessness, and of course his philosophy. He seems to be everywhere 24/7 in the Garden State/ THIS is very good news, and Lonegan’s line of attack very effectively ties Booker to Obama, as “two-of-a-kind” celebrity politicians with no substance and only tired pseudo-ideas. I will be watching the ongoing news on L vs. B very closely.
Talking to some friends from New Jersey, many are angered at what they perceive as Booker’s arrogance and entitlement mentality. Since he won the democrat nomination, he has spent more time out of state attending parties and fundraisers in LA than in New Jersey. He acts as if campaigning for the office is beneath him and all he has to do is run out the clock. On the other hand, Lonegan has been putting in 16 hour days, crisscrossing the state and meeting voters.
Good to here, it would be delicious if he were to win despite Christie’s de facto support for Booker.
It does remind me of Martha Coakley vs. Brown race. A virtually non-existent campaign predicated upon the idea that no Republican could ever win in Mass, and then defeated because the challenger went across the state and built at effective ground game.
I know exactly what did it. Lonegan is running an ad in prime time saying Booker supports Obamacare and is a “rubber stamp” for obama. At the end of the commercial they show a big rubber stamp slamming down. It is extremely effective.
Good stuff.
Question: If Lonegan wins, he then comes up for reelection in 2014, right? Would the Bookster run again? Do the rats have anyone else on the bench?
Time to pull a kitten or an old lady out of a burning building Cory - and do it with panache!
Maybe he’ll get stuck in the burning building. Hard to run when you’re barbequed.
Great news!!! It looks like New Jersey voters have had their fill of Obamabot thug, Cory Booker!!! New Jersey voters....do the right thing for your state, and, more importantly, yourselves and your children and elect Steve Lonegan, United States Senator, from Nj in the October, 2013 special election!!!
It’s a disgrace that Krispy won’t do a robocall for him. The slob remains very popular in the garden state, and his voice down the phone (no doubt through a donut in his mouth) might make the difference.
Two things need to be done...right now!!! One NJ voters have to get on the phone lines and badger Governor Christie to put his weight (no pun intended) behind Steve Lonegan, and NJ Lonegan voters have to turn out in massive numbers on Special Election Day!!! Do it!!!
I hear you, but as we learned in 2012, internal polling tends to be more along the lines of what the candidate hopes to hear, vs. the facts on the ground. Monmouth came out with a poll result today that showed Booker ahead by 13. That's down from the 16-pt gap from last month, but Lonegan still has a huge amount of ground to make up in a starkly liberal state.
Wow, down to 6 if the numbers can be believed. I wonder what effect shutdown will have on the election.
If we retain it the rats get another crack at in 13 months though.
