In fact, Durbin wasn’t sure about buying a policy on the open market because he never had to, having been a state employee from 1969 to 1982 and a federal employee from 1982 to now. His daughter, Christine, who was born in 1968, never went without the cushy government benefits offered to government workers and their families.

That's right...because they were among the fortunate ones. Now, we'll have the same coverage for everyone, like those in Congress and their staffers who will receive tax subsidies to offset their costs just like you do.

The "tax subsidies" for Congressional staff is a bit of a red herring, I think. Like many people, my employer covers a (significant) portion of my health insurance premiums - the only reason Congressional staffers would receive a "tax subsidy" to offset the cost of their premiums is because their employer happens to be the FedGov. They get a "tax subsidy" now (before ObamaCare), because their employer (FedGov) pays a portion of their premiums.
