Lawmakers on Capitol Hill do not seem any closer to an agreement that would end the government shutdown.
On Tuesday, when veterans came to the World War II Memorial only to discover it had been barricaded because of the shutdown, they moved the blockade, then continued on to pay their respects.
But the memorial is a federal site in a public space. According to the National World War II Memorial website, "The memorial is operated by the National Park Service and is open to visitors 24 hours a day, seven days a week."
Why was there a need for barricades in the first place?
"Park Service did not want to barricade these, but unfortunately we have been directed, because of the lack of appropriations ...

Yea those people in funny costumes on power trips aren’t able to harass the tourists while the govt. is shut down.
Directed by whom?
They wouldn’t dare to even attempt to close down the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of The Unknowns.
It’s the Chicago(thugs) way, For their next deplorable act they will be releasing some of our federal prison system’s most hardened psychopathic killers that they have been saving up just for this occasion.
Those soldiers are regular Army - part of the Old Guard & not affected by the shut-down. Arlington Cemetery is run by the military and not the Park Service.
LOL
Thanks. Not buying it.
Right now the polls are showing that both parties are getting about equal blame. Closing the park makes him look just as bad as it does the Republicans.
He’s not fooling anyone.
The EPA website is still up.
But not the National Park Service or the NASA website.
I think Marxists have gone to extreme lengths to win. I’m still not convinced closing the parks is one of those things.
We’re talking non-essential personnel. I see it that way.
Do you think they are essential?
They aren’t little men. Reid and Obama are. Very small, little men.
Oh and I’ve also wondered if part of the reason in stopping White House tours is because of Mechelle. She doesn’t like all those people coming there, she has said as much.
If Mechelle has anything to do with it, she should do like Bess Truman, go home and live there and visit the White House/DC on occasion.
There were Park Guards still on duty.
They were vets and they REFUSED to arrest.
FUBO!
That’s probabably what they meant by “has instructed federal offices to begin an orderly shutdown” on Cspan last night.
Good luck with that. Gen. X/Y have been LIB-otomized from birth.
I’d go to the Memorial tomorrow if I lived anywhere close.
I am shocked that NEA is not up.
But I thought it was the lousy Baby Boomers that bit first?
Poor kids never stood a chance.
In possibly the most pathetic and useless display of petulance, lowly McCoy’s Ferry was blocked off.
Unless you’re a total die-hard CW fiend, that name means nothing to you.
It’s a puny little camping/fishing area on the Potomac whose main redeeming feature is a ramshackle boat ramp.
Pitiful.
I have never personally seen the place being ‘manned’ by anyone.
Apparently, the park itself cannot “maintain” during the shutdown.
I guess I should gone the back way over the train trestle to see if the river was still flowing.

Our First Ghetto Queen is a real piece of work.
You can take the thugs out of the ghetto, but you can’t take the ghetto out of the thugs. Moochelle is a prime example of this.
It sounds like the Kenyan is still looking out for his friends and donors. They’ll come through this unscathed. It’s good to be the king or the friends of the king.
I heard an ABC news report along those lines today.
They said while it is payed for by us, it is OBAMA’S HOUSE and he does not care for the riff raff.
Poor ol boy needs a bit of peace and quiet.
Seems he feels quite TAXED.
