That’s because AARP got Medicare Advantage eliminated in exchange for their support for the ACA. That will allow AARP’s Medicare supplement plan to have less competition.

However in the last two years my premium went up 65-70%.

I guarantee that was because of Soetorocare. My premiums more than doubled since the "Affordable Care Act" was passed, forcing me to switch to a cheaper plan. I'll find out soon what 2014 has in store for me.

I thought that last year when I got the letter from Medicare endorsing the AARP plan.

However, no AARP/United Healthcare plans is even listed for my state for 2014.

I agree wholeheartedly. The smart carriers were looking to hike as soon as they saw this monstrosity on the horizon. In California we have a committee that has to approve rate hikes. Their technique is to say we saved you 26% on a rate hike because it was supposed to go up 100% but we only approved 76%( their math not mine).

Karl Rove was on with Greta last night and said a lot of the rates people are getting are WRONG. Some people lucked out with their employers this yr. with the delayed mandate for employers but in one yr. they will be dumped into exchanges:

Medicare Advantage has not been eliminated. AARP endorsed obamacare because it put them in the cat bird’s seat to sell more supplemental plans. I would do anything to avoid supporting AARP.

Medicare Advantage plans are still available however it will take some time searching for them and determining if they are going to be written in our individual states.

We received notice from our current Medicare Advantage carrier that the plan we’ve had will not be available for 2014 but I see the same company has comparable coverage in our state so it may not cause as much heartburn as at first glance. Have fingers crossed.
