An exasperated President Obama on Wednesday met with congressional leaders at the White House to discuss the budget standoff that has shut down parts of the federal government for the first time in 17 years, making it clear to them that he will not bargain with Obamacare.
The top four leaders of both parties from both houses gathered for an hour and a half seesion in the Oval Office without any staff. After the meeting, Speaker John Boehner said the president reiterated tonight he will not negotiate.
According to a White House official, the president planned to use the meeting to urge the House leaders to pass a clean continuing resolution without what Obama has called ideological demands such as riders aimed at undermining his signature health-care law so that the government can reopen.
Obama also planned to call on Congress to act to raise the debt ceiling to pay the bills we have already incurred and avoid devastating consequences on our economy, the official said.

Pay to not play.
"This is the law of the land, passed by both Houses and signed by the President. Republicans need to get over that."
Do the Democrats want to stay with that line? Because when it's time to talk about the sequester and the debt ceiling, the Republications can turn that stance around.
And what did their hard-line stance get them? The Tea Party got what they wanted -- a slow-down on ObamaCare. Something that could have been brought up after the Senate passed one of the handful of CRs that the House sent over. So, instead of having to haggle over just Obamacare, the Senate's stance -- and Obama's stance -- lost them not only the funding of Obamacare, but funding for significant slabs of the Federal government. To me, that's a step backwards. And now we have reports that the piecemeal restoration of funding for the rest of government is going to be voted down and/or vetoed. If the Senate and the President care so much about the people, why are they hurting so many of them by their actions.
And by their actions may they be known.
Let’s hope Senator Cruz is in charge of planning and executing the debt ceiling negotiations.
The mask of the would be dictator is slipping. Obama sees absolute power and intends to break the last of the GOP opposition.
Exasperated Obama tells congressional leaders he will not negotiate (Obama owns the shutdown)
0bama's coke-frazzled brain finally goes full schizophrenic.
After declaring TWICE that he will not negotiate, that should be the end of John Boehner’s and Mitch McConnell’s trips to the White House.
It’s bad enough that we have a president who is continually making a fool of himself; we don’t also need to see the Speaker of the House and Senate Minority Leader futily trekking back and forth to the White House like sadsack silent-screen comedians every few days.
In the 2008 campaign Democrats (was it Obama?) also promised that they would give all Americans the same healthcare plan that congress and the senate have.
But that is another promise that has fallen into the memory hole.
Yep...a true dictator.
Why not just have one party rule then? What is the effing point?
I have yet to hear anyone ask Pelosi, Reid or and other congress critter why they aren’t going to a part of Obamacare if it’s so great. Such a simple question. I really want to hear their answers.
I think Levin's right: this guy is unstable...
I think Obama’s government model is the one Hugo Chavez created in Venezuela. The legislature is just for show and does whatever the dictator and ruling party require.
King Obama will never be held responsible for the shutdown because he has the communists MSM of America supporting this dictator. The ignorance of millions of Americans in the media is almost unbelievable.
Tell him to eat the poop he’s trying to fling.
Oh yeah! Big time.
