My question (and I truly seek an answer):

If no spending is authorized at this point, shouldn’t the debt clock be slowed or even reversed? Or is our government spending so bloated that even when we are barely subsisting we don’t take in enough revenue to run essential needs and services?

The cr funds the various departments of the fedgov. Many other activities like Medicare for example are funded within the law itself. Medicare will not stop so the debt clock will barely slow down.
