High School Student Ordered To Remove NRA T-Shirt Because It Promotes Gun Violence
CBS Los Angeles ^ | October 2, 2013

Posted on 10/03/2013 7:25:24 AM PDT by billorites

A student at a high school in Anaheim Hills said administrators ordered her to change out of a T-shirt that promoted the National Rifle Association.

Sophomore Haley Bullwinkle said when she wore her NRA shirt to Canyon High School last month, she landed in the principal’s office for violating the school’s dress code that forbids offensive, violent or divisive clothing.

“They were treating me like I was a criminal,” she said. “I was not allowed to wear that at school because it promoted gun violence.”

The shirt, which was a gift from Bullwinkle’s father when he became a card-carrying member of the NRA, features a buck, an American flag and a hunter’s silhouette. It also has the words “National Rifle Association of America: Protecting America’s Traditions Since 1871” written in the center.

Bullwinkle’s father said he emailed the school’s principal to find out why his daughter had to change her shirt.

Principal Kimberly Fricker responded in an email, which said, in part, “The shirt had a gun on it, which is not allowed by school police. It’s protocol to have students change when they’re in violation of the dress code.”

The girl’s father, who has retained an attorney, now wants to know how the school defines violence. He said the drill team is allowed to twirl fake rifles and the mascot is a Comanche.

“I think that if you consider the hunter, the image of the hunter to be offensive, certainly there are groups that would consider the Comanche Indian chief to be offensive,” he said.

CBS2′s Stacey Butler was unable to reach Fricker for comment.

At my kids’ school, no printed messages or illustrations are allowed on any clothing. No team logos, etc. The only exception is that the name of school itself is permitted.

Is that “sinkhole”, or “STINKhole”? LOL! Glad you support your daughter and allow her to think for herself and stand up for her rights.

I wonder what they would say to a T-shirt with a picture of the Battle of Bunker Hill or D-day.

He said the drill team is allowed to twirl fake rifles

That right there pretty much sinks the school's stupid argument and claim of "zero tolerance".

That said, if the picture is the girl and that's the shirt in question, it must have looked like a tent on her...

The NRA was founded in 1871 by Republicans, in part, to insure that the newly freed slaves in the South had 2nd Amendment Rights to access arms to defend themselves from the KKK founded by Southern Democrats.

Our five year old came home with a squirt gun that he picked from the prize box a few weeks ago. I was SHOCKED. Really. He was so excited and proud.

It’s a public school...In California...Surely the father isn’t surprised by the abject dip$#ittery that proceeds from the principal.

...or “Stop Global Warming” ones. Equally “offensive” and “divisive.”

"There’s not just zero tolerance for guns in schools. There is zero tolerance for the IDEA of guns in schools."

Nah. If the kid wore a shirt looked like this:

With a shool district-approved pro-communist message, the image of the rifle would be allowed.

What is being attacked is the NRA political speech.

People need to stop sueing only the schools and school districts and start also naming as individuals the principals, teachers and school board members in the law suits.

So the 1st Amendment covers G-strings on strippers, “artists” using federal grants to mock religion and not T-shirts on young men? Who would have thought!

“They were treating me like I was a criminal,” she said. “I was not allowed to wear that at school because it promoted gun violence.”

Wow, I didn't know the NRA promoted gun violence. That would explain all those shootouts that break out at NRA meetings I guess. Wait, what...?

This is as good a thread as any to share lefty writer and gun-hater Stephen King’s latest gun guffaw.

The book is his latest, `Dr. Dreams’. An elderly fellow has been guarding a girl who is sought by a traveling band of eternally steam-sniffing quasi-vampires.
Of course, they want to sniff her steam
“Billy raised his shirttails and revealed an automatic pistol in a battered black holster. “One-nine-one-one Colt,” he said. “Full auto. World War II vintage.”

Now, I can see using the phrase “automatic pistol,” but can you imagine firing a “One-nine-one-one” on “full auto”? Snort, guffaw, chuckle, hee-haw.

He cracks me up. Another “We’re not so much laughing with you as at you, Steve ... “-gun moment that I thought I’d share.

I’m surprised that poster hasn’t been turned into a t-shirt already. Or maybe it has.
