Ted Cruz's townhall meeting by telephone last night drew over 104,000 participants. The previous record was 67,000 people. The event was sponsored by the Tea Party Patriots and Cruz was joined by Rep. Jim Bridenstine (R-OK). The meeting was on the continuing resolution.
TPP Co-founder Jenny Beth Martin said no special efforts were taken and the only announcements were the standard Facebook post for two hours and a robocall earlier in the day. The meeting was to bring people up to date on the defunding of Obamacare through the CR.
Just as 2010, the Tea Party patriots are leading the charge against Obamacare, which led to huge voter turnouts and a massive swing for the Republicans. Cruz emphasized the importance of recruiting friends and neighbors and to stress the exemption congress got from Obamacare.
Participants were able to speak and Rep. Bridenstine , a former fighter pilot, expressed his disappointment that democrats had killed funding for the Department of Veterans Affairs.
The TPP expect the present fervor among it's members to continue right through the talks on raising the debt ceiling. Martin noted that three weeks ago a tele conference call drew 67,000 people.
