US: Detroit ex-mayor should get 28 years in prison
Associated Press ^ | Oct 3, 2013 5:05 PM EDT | Ed White

Former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick should be sent to prison for at least 28 years for “astonishing” corruption that enriched him and his family while a desperate city slid toward financial collapse, prosecutors said Thursday.

The 51-page filing came a week before Kilpatrick is to be sentenced in federal court for two dozen crimes, including racketeering conspiracy, fraud and tax offenses. The government presented a scathing summary of evidence from his months-long trial and said the corruption tops all recent cases prosecuted elsewhere in federal court.

Detroit “desperately needed resolute leadership. Instead it got a mayor looking to cash in on his office through graft, extortion and self-dealing,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office said Thursday. …

I wouldn’t count on it. He’s been in jail for several months now and Detroit elections are being forcibly cleaned up and are under a microscope.

Agents at trial said Kilpatrick spent $840,000 beyond his salary during his stint as mayor, from 2002 to fall 2008. There was evidence of bribes passed in brown bags and in a bathroom. A campaign fundraiser said she pulled money from her bra, and city contractors testified that they were ordered to give work to pal Bobby Ferguson - or lose it.

The government said Kilpatrick, 43, also tapped a nonprofit fund, which was created to help distressed Detroit residents, to pay for yoga, camps for his kids, golf clubs and travel.

The purpose of the Democrat party is to elect thieves to office so that they can have access to public treasuries. The purpose of the media is to protect the Democrat thieves.

How about just two terms in prison? I think that would be more appropriate.

I remember way back when, Kwame was up for reelection and his opponent was a mixed race candidate, Freeman Hendricks. Sure enough, the issue of race came up with Freeman not being “Black” enough to run Detroit. I remember this issue coming up on the news.

Long story short, he’s protected class so it’s absolutely racist. I say we give him a pardon and put him back in office. Detroit deserves him.

Take a look who won the primary.

It wasn't without controversy starting with the fact that it was a write in campaign. They originally threw out some 40% of his votes for no apparent reason but the state made them count them. He still faces a considerable challenge from Benny Napoleon. A little Democrat on Democrat action promises to be fun for all.

Rep. Carolyn Kilpatrick Loses Congressional Seat Amid Son Kwame's Scandals
circa Aug 2010 / BY Patricia Murphy, Capitol Hill Bureau Chief

Kwame

Kwame's mommy. Guy who beat her.

Sexy text messages, perjury charges and a Detroit political career mired in corruption brought Democratic Rep. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick's distinguished congressional career to an end Tuesday night -- and she had only her son to blame.

That son -- former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick -- is serving five years in prison for violating the terms of his 2009 probation. He originally went to jail for perjury and corruption related to a sex and text-message scandal between him and his chief of staff in the mayor's office. He was sent back to prison in 2010 on additional perjury charges.

Although Represenative Kilpatrick's 14 years in Congress were scandal-free, and she eventually nabbed a spot on the powerful Appropriations Committee, a poll just before Tuesday's primary showed that 44 percent of voters planned to choose someone other than the incumbent because of the mess surrounding the former mayor.

The congresswoman also faced her toughest opponent ever Tuesday night in Hansen Clarke, an Ivy League-educated Michigan state senator with a compelling personal story and a slogan telling voters "It's Time for a Change." Clarke soundly defeated Kilpatrick, by 47 percent to 41 percent.--Snip--

Look for all these guys to get pardoned by Obama, including a few in Illinois like Blagovich and Jesse Jackson Jr.

If this happens, I hope the incomming Tea Party Prez re-arrests them and tries them on other related charges.

Your friend was half right. After being in public office, Demonrat and RINO politicians should be given a position by juries a few steps higher up.

Looks like Detroit, MI is the “Chocolate City” of the North. New Orleans, LA is the Southern version. Not surprisingly, ex-Mayor Ray Nagin is being tried for corruption. Looks like Kwame Kilpatrick will beat Ray Nagin to the cross bar hotel.
