MOSCOW The Russian Foreign Ministry said Thursday that it evacuated its embassy in Libya after armed men stormed the complex the day before, apparently seeking revenge for the killing of a Libyan Air Force officer.
And though it was clear how the attack ended Russian security personnel expelled the attackers, killing two of them, and then the entire embassy staff left the country why it started remained murky.
According to the information we have, the direct reason for this aggressive action toward our diplomatic mission was the murder on Oct. 1 by a Russian citizen, Ekaterina Ustyuzhaninova, of a Libyan officer and the infliction of a knife wound on his mother, the Russian Foreign Ministrys statement said.
The incident provoked relatives and friends of the murdered Libyan to avenge his death with an attack on the Russian diplomatic mission, it concluded.

Don’t know what happened but Russia knows how to protect its people. Make us look sick.
Russia has sided with the Iranian Shiites against the Sunni terrorists, who currently are running Libya. I suspect that may be the real reason.
Russia opposed the NATO attack on Kaddafi led by Obungo, which installed the al Qaeda terrorists running things now. So the guys currently running Libya probably have no love of Russia, and just wanted a convenient excuse to kill or expel them.
Has Hilllary been moon lighting for Putin
Russian security personnel expelled the attackers... killing two of them--
And, Vandya, he looked damn buff... doing it, too!
This story is from a Libyan newspaper. It adds some details:

that video again?
The embassy attack may have been a response to the Suq Al-Jumah murder of a prominent Revolutionary fighter by his Russia wife or Girlfriend, using his own Kalashnikov.
The first thing I thought of when I started reading this story was "Girlfriend? Or handler?"
The terrorists who were the successors to Khaddafi in Libya have turned that country into another Palestine, an ungoverned and largely lawless territory.
There is no longer any ambassadorial function in that territory. It has devolved into whoever can hold a defensible position against the next attack.
And the attacks will just keep on coming.
My guess would be that there is little to be gained for Russia to keep an embassy open there except as a base to run its network of paid informers. But I’m sure Libyan spies are iffy at best in times like this.
Yep. The only stability Libya has is a result of the government being able to pay the various factions with large sums of oil money. However, oil production has stopped. It’s going to get really bloody really fast.
Hmmm
Preparation for the “Ripley option?”
[”Girlfriend? Or handler?”]
Could have been both.
It's not rocket surgery: just have suitable firearms at hand, and plenty of ammo. The attackers quickly lose interest if they are convincingly opposed.
