OGDEN, Utah (ABC 4 Utah) A passionate protest was held in front of the James V. Hansen Federal Building was held Thursday by federal employees wanting to return to their jobs.
We want to work! the group chanted.
Hundreds of thousands of federal workers are living in limbo during the government shutdown. Roughly 10,000 of those people are employed in Utah, but are being furloughed.
Jenny Brown is a furloughed IRS worker in Ogden. Brown said she and about 90 percent of IRS workers in Ogden are staying at home without pay. They were protesting on behalf of the NTEU or National Treasury Employees Union.
Its been some rough days, Brown said. Were all worried. We dont know whats going to happen or when were going back to work.
The group is also wondering when they will see their next paycheck.
Were hurting, Brown said. Were struggling to make ends meet and pay the necessities.
Monty Lewis and a group from the American Federation of Government Employees showed up to the protest in solidarity. Lewis works at Hill Air Force Base where he said about 2,700 employees are furloughed too.
Lewis is still going to work, but will not get paid until the shutdown is over.
Youre at work knowing youre not getting paid, Lewis said. Its kind of hard to concentrate on your job.
Lewis said he feels like a pawn in a game of chess and Congress is playing.
We dont know how long [the shutdown] will last, Lewis added. The uncertainty is bad on morale.
He hopes Congress can settle their differences so Utahns can get back to work for the federal government.

IRS workers not working.
Boy, that should turn the American people against the “shut down.”

Uh yeah...I’m sure there are tons of americans heartbroken that there are IRS workers that are on a paid vacation...
And now that you don't have to spend 8 hours a day at the federal make-work facility, you can! You're welcome!
How many days has it been? And they’re struggling? And they make a living dealing with other peoples money? OOOOooooK
DEAR Whiny, cry-baby, IRS-union public servant,
Stinks to be you right now, dosent it?
Three days, and you cant stand it??????
You gladly voted and supported the sitting President.
Shut up and eat your peas!
They have been out three days. They get paid every two weeks and claim they are struggling to make ends meet. Good grief!
Welcome to the revolution. The IRS should be the first casualties. If it’s done right.
Were hurting, Brown said. Were struggling to make ends meet and pay the necessities.”
hang on... they haven’t even missed a single check yet and can’t their union pony up something??
Did you hear about the terrible tragedy when a government road crew forgot to take along their shovels? They had to lean on each other!
Perhaps they can keep their skills honed during the shutdown by practicing audits and SWAT tactics on each other?
Oh, we know. There's an awful lot of harassment of the Tea Party that's just sitting on their desks waiting to be done.
If this just doesn't show how far our country has fallen.
I’ve lived this crap forever. I never had it but these morons all get paid retroactively.
They can all bend backwards as far as I’m concerned.
Word to self. Blah, Blah, Blah.
Do not forget all that ammo they bought, here’s the why.
“Lewis is still going to work, but will not get paid until the shutdown is over”
Poor lewis. Can I get you some coffee?
they’re all on paid vacation, they haven’t lost a penny....they’ll all get big fat checks and this nice fall week off from work won’t even be counted as vacation...
3 days without porn and they go crazy
