Analysis: Shutdown strategy has wide U.S. Republican support

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Eager to exploit divisions among Republicans, Democrats have hammered the message that the U.S. government shutdown is the work of a small segment of House of Representatives Republicans on the far right.

In fact, support for the tactic that led to the shutdown - now in its fourth day - has proven to be far more solid and widespread among House Republicans than the Democratic portrayal.

That is because the far right, after the 2010 and 2012 congressional elections, is not a small segment at all - it represents probably 69 percent of the House Republican caucus.

Members who were endorsed by Tea Party organizations in the 2012 election make up a full third of the Republican caucus of 232 representatives.

Even more, about 160 members, a strong majority of the caucus, get high ratings from the ultra-conservative Club For Growth.

5 SECONDS in to tonight’s NBC Evening News piece on the shutdown, they had someone saying, “Those TEA PARTY people are CRAZY, doncha know?” Followed immediately by Cruz bashing, and quotes from DEMOCRATS.

Reuters 100 percent rating

Genderqueer/Androgynous

People who identify as genderqueer may think of themselves as one or more of the following:

having an overlap of, or blurred lines between, gender identity and sexual and romantic orientation.[2][3]

two or more genders (bigender, trigender, pangender);

without a gender (nongendered, genderless, agender; neutrois);

moving between genders or with a fluctuating gender identity (genderfluid);[4]

third gender or other-gendered; includes those who do not place a name to their gender;[5]

So far the conservative Republicans have played their hand very well. And there is a hidden benefit to the shutdown for the future.

When Republicans control congress and the presidency, the biggest question will be “What parts of the government are cut, which are eliminated altogether, and how fast can we bring this about?”

Right now they are getting a *great* lesson is this, for the future reduction in the size and scope of the federal government by 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25% or more.

Right now there are some 2.5 million federal employees. How many of them should be let go for good?

The soon to be Republican committee chairmen are going to have their work cut out for them, killing vast amounts of reckless regulation.

And right now they are learning what to cut.

Love the descriptions/disclaimers of the Right: Militant, Ultra-conservative, Far-right.

While the (liberal) Brookings Institution is described as, well, nothing. Just Brookings (a think tank) that gets to call the Tea Party “militant.”

There’s this scene in ‘Pulp Fiction’ where Reid turns to Obama and says “bring out the Reuters”.

The Republicans are NOT proposing shutdown, dammit. The DEMOCRATS are doing that. The Republicans are AUTHORIZING huge amounts of spending. The Demon Rats, dedicated to socialized medicine, are the ones holding the American people hostage.

They’re preaching to the choir. This country is divided. Those who love Obama and those who love America. No one can be swayed one way or the other by Brian Williams.

Correct. And the shutdown is causing the public to get more and more used to the idea.

I think the Dems' days of crying wolf over these shutdowns might be fast coming to an end.

What I’m really hoping for are any number of lists being developed by independent groups of conservatives as to what radical reductions need to be made in the federal government. And soon.

Granted, different groups have different priorities for cuts, but where those conservative priorities *overlap* needs to be made clear to the conservatives in congress, as prime, “core conservative” areas for cutting.

Providing them with a “map” for cutting will make their job a thousand times easier, and there being real cuts a thousand times more likely.

By the time there is a Republican congress and a Republican president, they should be able to hit the ground running, and in the “first 100 days”, eliminate hundreds of billions of dollars in wasteful and unconstitutional spending.

Just as important, this much cutting will require some pretty substantial “enabling laws” as well, which need a lot of time to prepare. For example, a LOT of federal employees will need to be stripped of their job protections and a huge number of regulations will need to be canceled.

Finally, in the midst of all of this, there will be calls for an overall purge of the bureaucracy of the leftist fanatics, corruption, partisan abuse, and malfeasance, likely with a bunch of prosecutions by the incoming federal prosecutors.

And as before, “I was only following orders”, will not excuse individuals for criminal acts.

Never mind the lies. It was the Dems that favored shutdown.
