The government shutdown almost made the U.S. Air Force Academy an incredibly uncomfortable place to be. The Colorado-based academy was on the verge of a toilet paper shortage. No, really. "We're not always aware at a high level who has the contracts with the toilet paper but we found out pretty fast and we fixed it," Superintendent of the Air Force Academy, Lt. Gen. Michelle Johnson, told Fox21News.

You’re right that no civil servant should be starving at this point. It’s only four days in. I don’t think any of them have missed a single paycheck, yet.

On the other hand, civil servants do all sorts of jobs. In regards to the military, civilian employees perform most of the support functions. It doesn’t surprise me that stuff like this falls through the cracks, even in four days. The people the military would normally count on to do things like buy toilet paper may be furloughed.

Is this not the most ridiculous shutdown “horror” story you have ever seen?
Cruz is right, we are winning because this seems to be the best the Lame Stream Media can come up with.

I can’t believe that you are seriously supporting government waste and taking budget from combat forces to spend on Air Force luxuries in garrison, this is truly one argument that I did not anticipate running into.

Take down all the photos of Zero that pollute all gov’t offices and use them in the cans.

Look at posts 4 and 14, the Air Force is famous for waste and pampering.

What in the world crawled inside your head to start such a stupid fight?

You don’t know what you’re talking about. I assume you were joking.

When I was active duty, I deployed to newly established bases. All those things you mentioned weren’t even on the list. Flying aircraft was the #1 priority. Communications, parts, fuel, and equipment (everything necessary to fly aircraft), were established as quickly as possible. People eat MREs until a chow tent can be built and sleep in tents or in the hangars next to their equipment. If you’re lucky, AAFES flies in a small exchange for necessities and maybe some snacks.

Yes. A base can grow over time to include some of the things you mentioned, but the mission comes first.

As post five mentioned, with this paper shortage they will have to rely solely on their Air Force bidets for proper hygiene.

At the Coast Guard Academy where I work the WG and many contract personnel are furloughed. The base set up bin outside all the buildings so the remaining occupants can take their own trash out.

Yesterday an O-6 (full bird Captain) and I ran into each other at the bins, each taking out our trash.

I commented that I haven’t cleaned a military head since 1972. She said at least this time WE (Key word is: WE) have disposable gloves this time.

We both snickered about it, went inside and cleaned the heads for our respective areas.

"Smart people get stuff. Have a problem with it?"

Call McHales Navy or Radar O'Reilly.

Or the Seals or Rangers.

Really? Everyone there thinks they are Venezuela?
