An Arizona man with an incurable form of leukemia has received notice from his insurance company that his plan is being terminated due to regulations from the Affordable Care Act.
-snip
Back in 2006, he found out he had an incurable form of leukemia that requires ongoing treatment until he dies.
In 2012, his treatment bill was more than $350,000. But because of his insurance, his out-of-pocket was only $4,500.
Thats about to change because Michael just got a letter from his insurance carrier saying as of January 1, he would be dropped from coverage because of new regulations under Obamacare. His doctor at the Mayo Clinic may be gone as well.
"Now it doesnt mean I cant go see my current doctor, but my $4,500 out-of-pocket, is going to turn into a minimum of $26,000 out-of-pocket to see the doctor that Ive been seeing the last seven years," he said.

To give the devil his due under the exchange they charge the same regardless of your pre-existing condition. They don't even ask. I'm not sure about private insurance though.
No problem. He can just hop onto the internets, go to healthcare.gov and get a new policy (providing they’ve fixed the website over the weekend).
Of course, he’ll probably pay more and get less.
I had a great individual policy for 12 years. High deductible and very low monthly premiums. Didn’t cover maternity, mental health, immune related diseases and only $10,000 for cancer but I had it in the event I needed to be hospitalized and never ever used it for outpatient treatment. It was cancelled earlier this year because it doesn’t comply with Obamacare and the carrier which provided these types of policies is going out of business.
Didn’t go on Medicare when I was first eligible but guess I will have to now and pay the penalty and higher premium. Beyond ridiculous.
Reminds me of some food coupons I’ve seen lately where you can get something free - which is usually something I would buy - if I buy something else which I would never buy and don’t want.
A built-in death panel.
First it was kids with cancer, now this. Won’t take much longer of this crap and his keeping his play sites open and closing down Vet sites and such and we might have us a revolution.
2014 elections are not that far off. Thankfully I have a conservative Rep this year!
some cancers will simply be ‘eliminated’ as cancer - renamed and then ineligible for cancer treatment
BINGO!!!!
Wow!
Sorry you have CLL.
It is generally an old peeples disease and yer only 52.
How you makin?
Yeah, that’s what I get for no drinking, drugs or smoking.
Diagnosis at age 52, Chemo, Remission (good numbers), fell out of Remission at age 55, Chemo, Remission (sort of, numbers below normal but acceptable), maintaining.
Visit the Oncologist next Friday. Take it a day at a time.
A guy I used to work with was diagnosed with Acute Leukemia and almost died. He pulled through but it was rough. Didn’t know he had it until he passed out at his Daughter’s 9th Birthday Party. He didn’t drink, do drugs or smoke either.
I learned long ago that there will always be people better off than you and people worse off than you. That’s Life in a nutshell, so enjoy every moment God gives you.
Thanks for your concern. I’m the luckiest guy walking.
