If the nation is lucky, this October will mark the beginning of the end of the tea party.
The movement is suffering from extreme miscalculation and a foolish misreading of its opponents intentions. This, in turn, has created a moment of enlightenment, an opening to see things that were once missed.
Many Republicans, of course, saw the disaster coming in advance of the shutdown. But they were terrified to take on a movement that is fortified by money, energy and the backing of a bloviating brigade of talk-show hosts. The assumption was that the tea party had become invincible inside the GOP.
People who knew better followed Sen. Ted Cruz down a path of confrontation over Obamacare. Yet even before the shutdown began, Republicans stopped talking about an outright repeal of Obamacare, as House Speaker John Boehners ever-changing demands demonstrated.
The extent of the rout was then underscored in the hot-microphone incident last week when Sen. Rand Paul was caught plotting strategy with Sen. Mitch McConnell. Pauls words, spoken after he had finished a television interview, said more than he realized.

I saw this lickspittle on PBS briefly over the weekend.
I detest the worm.
Sounds like Joseph Goebbles from good ole uncle adolph’s camp during the nazi run at world domination. The saying went “The bigger the lie the more they will believe it”. Amazing that these idiot assclowns are trying to persuade those that are not fooled by the fool! He needs to go home and rest his neck.
Sure, E.J. Just like the 'Rats fiddled with Senate rules to pass the Unaffordable Care Act.
you need to change your meds.

We are not arguing with rational people.
Well, no one is saying that liberals/democrats are smarter than a bag of hammers...
Its actually almost an insult to hammers...
You know, if you hang him by his ankles he’ll drown in six inches of water...
When the music stops, I know I’ll have a chair...
And I have the means to keep it...

“Stevie-Dee” inserted his comments in the mix...
The exploding heads trying to keep up with that guy are failing miserably...
Never thought someone like that would actually have an account to reply to such an article...
[snicker]
Thanks. I don’t have an account over there.
Personally I think that this is the ‘final’ trump card of the administration. SNAP/EBT/SSDI/SSI all turned off and the ensuing chaos allows for the ‘use of force’ in restoring law and order. And who would get the blame? Why those horrific Tea Partiers and their ‘tools’ in the house of Representatives.
Never mind all of the efforts to fund the government EXCEPT for Obamacare, that didn’t happen obviously because the ‘oh-so-reasonable’ Democrats and Obama wouldn’t have let that happen. Or so the MSM will be saying to the Low-information-voters and the ‘thug’ base of the party.
The Tea Party shifted into high gear during the August recesses of 2009 with the town meeting campaign of meeting their elected representatives.
In November 2010, the Republicans had an historical sweep of the House of Representatives, governorships, state legislatures down to dogcatchers nationwide.
Soon after the Tea Party House was installed, the Tea Party was declared dead. I'd love to know all the times since then the Tea Party has been declared dead. This is just another time. Just wait until the RINO's, including big names will lose their primaries and get replaced with Ted Cruz Republicans.
This country is beyond reconciliation, especially with the left, from the POTUS down, stoking the fires by calling us arsonists, terrorists, teabaggers etc.
Yep, and it might happen in the next few weeks.
The Liberals have yet to see the end of the Tea Party. The Patriots have not begun to fight! There is no surrender for people who love freedom. They better be looking for a new line of work because they will fall with their dummy-prop president.
But that would exterminate their own voters. They must think they have vote fraud perfected to the degree where they can risk it.
At that point, future elections will be moot.
It will be rule by emergency decree under the emergency powers act.
Game over.
“...if they just backed off a little on the control freakery and let the economy prosper, they could have plenty of big government programs to keep themselves in office and still not crash the whole system.”
They WANT to crash the system. They CAUSE chaos, blame and demonize a convenient target (the Jews in Germany in the 30s, Christians here now), and then present themselves as having the answer, all the while gaming the system and putting themselves into consolidated positions of power.
To understand the left, all you really need do is LISTEN to them; when they tell you they’re going to do something to you, believe it. They mean it. It may take them a couple decades, but they’re like venereal disease; they never go away, and they just keep passing it on to warp another generation.
“...I suspect most of us would even tolerate high taxes if we felt we were actually getting something tangible for our money....”
I wouldn’t. I understand your point, but taxes should be one single flat tax, that everybody pays. Say, 2% of your total income, once a year. No loopholes, nothing. Flat tax, and get outta our faces.
Sales tax on goods? That’s fair; Everybody pays the same for the goods. The more you use, the more you pay.
“...it’s about control, of everyone and everything,...”
It always has been.
