as I understand the copyright laws now for writing, once apiece is written, put to ‘paper’ and writer identified - the copyright is automatic. (I've had this little conversation in the past with one of my editors, (a self-avowed a Marxist,) re the difference between news stories written as a reporter and free lance columns.)
And, today, with the Internet at our fingertips, anyone who plagiarizes can be ‘caught’ easily with a google search of phrases, etc.
