Has anyone else noticed the increased usage of the present tense when reporting news? It is driving me crazy.

‘He returns home from work’

This is constant in the reporting here.

Command of English does not seem to be a requirement for broadcasters any more. I noticed years ago that the people that do the radio ads almost all have speech defects, inabilities to say certain sounds, for instance, even a noticeable lisp for one fellow.

They do that for the same reason the retarded anchors start every story with “Tonight...”

It’s to make it seem more “urgent.” It’s the crap they teach in J-school.
