Russia is developing a new 20-ton attack drone that may be used to carry out strikes on stationary and moving targets over land and sea, according to news reports.
Sukhoi, a Russian aircraft manufacturer, is building the massive drone, whose prototype could be ready by 2018, reported Pravda, a political Russian newspaper based in Moscow. The specific capabilities of the new vehicles have not been discussed publicly, but are expected to rival similar American attack drones.
The developments signal Russia's commitment to establishing a strong drone program, Russian officials said.
"From the point of view of theory, engineering and design ideas, we are not in the last place in the world," Vladimir Anokhin, vice president of the Russian Academy of Geopolitical Issues, told Pravda in this translated quote.

A remote piloted version or semi-autonomous version of the TA-50.
Didn’t we build that option into the F-35?
Yeah, those stooped no talent Russians. They won’t ever catch up.
Did they remember it has to fly?
(Perhaps Russia should shoot for a 21-ton droner...20 just isn’t enough for targets)
Kill moose and squirrel......
In WW2, strategic bombing (at least in Europe) was a failure because the damage caused by the bombs was much less than the cost in labor, material and lives of those carrying out the strike.
Likely the same here, short of nuclear weapons.
The european WW2 strat bombing campaign was not a success in a direct sense. But it was vital in making the Luftwaffe come out and fight. We decimated them.
No, we did worse to them than decimate them. In fact we did the opposite of decimate them, only about one in ten of them finished the war alive.
Think of a 20 ton drone, immune from grenade and rockets, can maneuver over rough terrain, is armed to the teeth, cannot be breached and it just entered your town looking to kick some serious Muzzies butt.
And when it is finished, it can move to a shoreline, go into the ocean and swim out to its mother ship.
Now picture 20 of these things being offloaded by a ship offshore and landing in, let’s say for arguments sake, Somalia.
Been done.
Is that Gigantor the space aged robot?

Anyone who would call Pravda a “political newspaper” either never read it or is a liar. Pravda is Russia’s answer to the Weekly World News and has been for a number of years.
