Grand Canyon Chief Ranger Bill Wright

Perhaps the good citizens can implement a reverse barrycade - reject this guy and any willing park rangers by denying services to them.

NPS has over 20k full time employees. If 10% are Obama-followers, I see that as a small minority. It’s still enough to harass decent people, but I would not generalize from those who are actively evil to all NPS personnel.

It’s like cops who shoot dogs - there are a lot who do that. There are a whole lot more police who entered the profession to protect decent people and have no interest in shooting their neighbor’s dog.

Note: Park Service and police nothing like ACORN or Democrat operatives. Members of liberal groups entered their line of work specifically to act against American interests, and they have nothing in common with decent people.

cannot help but wonder if they would shoot if given the order. They seem to have that mentality

Do you really have any doubts at all about this? I don't.

I have no doubt either

The vast majority of government employees would follow orders, even ones like that.

I realize that I'm preaching to the choir, but if anyone is looking for proof, consider human nature. Has human nature changed in 70 years? (Obviously not) Then look at historical precedent WWII Germany and France. When the Nazis took over France, the French police were given orders to round up the Jews. They did. They rounded them up just as enthusiastically as the Gestapo. The followed orders that they knew were moraly wrong. There were probably a few French police that dragged their feet and didn't make their quota, but on the whole the vast majority became part of the holocaust enabling structure. Look at Cambodia. The Kamer Rouge slaughtered a significant percentage of the population at Pol Pot's directive. Were they any different in their fundamental nature than the current crop of us armed government bureaucrats? Nope. The STASI surveiled, jailed, and executed thousands of East Germans. The homeland security HIRED one of the main STASI directors, Michael Wolf. Is there any doubt in anyone's mind that our government is prepared to do whatever it takes to force 0's will on the people?

Do you like close by? Sounds like you know the area. For safety reasons I could understand, but I just don’t think that’s the real reason theyre keeping folks out. If they’re paying rangers anyways to patrol to keep folks out then it doesn’t seem like it’s a money issue.

No, I live in western Pennsylvania and have visited the Grand Canyon on several ocassions, hiking a few miles down from the South Rim, and, in December, 2008, rafting from Lee’s Ferry to Diamond Creek (~225 miles) in twenty days.

While I agree that safety reasons were not the prime consideration in closing the place (I don’t think that safety considerations played a part in closing parking lots at Mount Vernon or in barrycading the World War II Memorial), they may play a role in how the place is shutdown.

I see no reason, for instance, as to why the National Park Service roads at Gettysburg are closed. I was down at the Chickamauga battlefield last month for the 150th Commeration and suppose that the trails and park roads which I hiked then are closed, for no good reason. But at places like Grand Canyon, if the roads were open for traffic, then the potential problems of stranded hikers must be addressed.
