Allegations Accuse The Chicago “Blackhawks” Name To Be Racist

Recent reports surfacing about a particular NFL franchise, the Washington Redskins, created a minor stir throughout the sports world, bringing the Chicago Blackhawks in the argument as well.

What unites the two teams, you might ask? It is the name, which is suggestive of a native group. Not only are the Redskins and Blackhawks involved, but another NFL franchise, the Kansas City Cheifs, and the Cleavland Indians of the MLB. Besides those four main teams, are over 150 other clubs in various sports across North America. Many activist groups for indigenous people have called out these clubs on occasion, with little success.

Should we be worried? No. A famous study by Sports Illustrated back in 2002 found that “83% of American Indian respondents to a poll said that professional teams should NOT stop using Indian nicknames, mascots, or symbols.” Even though it is over a decade old, feelings are still largely the same......

Well as a Muslim I am offended that San Francisco and San Diego are named after Christians.

Just imagine how they would feel about "Corpus Christi!"

You know what I find offensive?

Chicago's large scale slaughter of human beings...

Chicago's systemic corruption and one party politics.

Chicago's lack of respect for the second amendment. Black flash mobs robbing stores and beating clerks is offensive.

Gang-bangers.

On my list the term “Blackhawks’ comes in around the 850 mark... little after people who drop pennies on railroad tracks.

I still can't figure this PC thing out

There in is your problem.

You can't figure it out because you are looking for a logical rationale.

There ISN'T one.

They just pull something out of the air and run with it -- without a clue as to unintended consequences. Case in point: Paper or Plastic? or Global Cooling Global Warming Global Climate Change.

We could do like NY City schools. Nothing like the pride of having attended something like PS150.

The "Black Hawk" is not a racist symbol. This, on the other hand, might be:

all these team names kept the indian legacy alive...as intended. Now all these names will be lost in time. The Indians are fools. Let them eat crow.

Just more of the gnats on the left attempting to keep us off guard with attacks big and small and some so microscopic but from so many angles we don’t know which battle to fight first.

Only very weak and mentally unstable people get offended at such things and it is very easy to spot the weakest of the weak simply noting their level of outrage at being offended.

The perfect example would be Muslims. Totally worthless people who will behead you for saying negative things about their pedophile prophet or their comic book for retards.

“A state university, where I did graduate work, came under fire several years ago because their school mascot was ‘Redmen’. The U has a large percentage of Native American students.

Like the current angst of a few, that U changed its mascot to RiverHawks.”

I know the institution of which you speak... Their colors are green and white, I believe. A sociologist at another regional university in that same state made one intelligent comment in his career (and a surprisingly un-pc one at that): he said that “...the Northeastern State University Basketball team was a bunch of black guys, dressed up in green, and calling themselves the Redmen.” Intelligent in that it was accurate, and I thought humorous, though some probably took offense at that too.

That's a pretty comprehensive list! It has long been a popular practice to name one's local sports team after an animal, especially if it is common to the region or state.

Not all localities have followed this practice of course, for example: the San Francisco Giants. While there is no indication that "giants" are native to the Bay Area, it is certainly a finer appellation than any that might nonetheless better reflect San Francisco's population, such as the "San Francisco Gay Vegan Atheists".

Just try fitting that on a uniform. And you don't want to think about the logo.
