First week of shutdown sends federal workers to unemployment offices.
Nearly 34,000 federal workers applied for unemployment benefits in the first week of the shutdown, according to government agencies.
A total of 16,078 furloughed workers in Maryland have applied for unemployment as of Sunday night, according to the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation. The agency only receives 3,000 claims from federal workers all year on average

They are fortunate they don’t have to file for unemployment via Obamacare websites .
Yet ..

I’m willing to bet at least half of ‘em determine a way to “not expect to be re-hired” and 99 weeks times 17,000 = ... a whole BUNCH’a tax money.

If they're drawing unemployment then they shouldn't get back pay when they return to work. Or at least refund their unemployment payments...

Welcome to the party, feddies!

Almost 34,000 Government Workers Apply for Unemployment OK. Since the people who make up the weekly unemployment (fairy tale) numbers are "non-essential", or at least they SHOULD BE, no one is available to gather these stats and these numbers will never be counted and appear as part of Hussein's grand plan to destroy every job in the Country; Right?

Fed employees were encourage to apply, more as a way to make a point to the administration. They were all told by their supervisors that any amount paid out would need to be repaid when the employee was paid by the government.
No one can “find a way to remain unemployed” when the government is cutting your check. Things like that are double checked before any money is issued.

I think that will depend on the polling data as to which party gets blamed for the results of the shutdown.

not unemployed. But, as was explained to me once, if you are furlowed for two weeks, you can begin to collect. The key is you have to file two weeks before you can collect.

How is it screwing anyone if fed employees have to repay it? In fact since the system takes up to 3 weeks to kick in after you apply, no one will get the unemployment paid.
