A single mother who has been working at McDonald's for 10 years was detained by police last week after she interrupted the company president's speech in Chicago to confront him about low worker pay.

Crain's Chicago Business reports that 26-year-old Nancy Salgado was part of a group protesting the event, asking company officials to raise worker wages to $15 an hour and allow employees to form a union without fear of retaliation.

No doubt, because on a min wage job she can still get food stamps, earned income credit, and a lot of other gravy.

Shes is free to, but clearly she is simply too Stupid to.

These minimum wage idiots are such a waste of everybody’s time.

I would see to it that every protester attending was fired in a very public way

I’m surprised more of these kind of operations are not “up or out”...basically if you work there for three years without getting a promotion, you get let go.

I find it strange she’s worked for Mickey Dee’s for 10 years and is still making $8.25/hr.

See post #14.

Wouldn’t she need to write English for that.

The reality is that in 10 yrs (maybe 5) most fast food ops will have 2 employees per shift, mostly to unload trucks and swab the crappers.

The push for $15/hr will certainly hasten automation.

I don’t see the message you want me to.

My point is, at Mickey Dee’s you’re either managing at 10 years or you’re gone. Nobody stays at $8.25 entry-level forever, or 10 years for that matter. If she was worth $3.50/hr she’d have been canned, even if she’s black.

Anybody who still makes minimum wage after 10 years with a company is overpaid. If she were worth more, she’d either have been promoted or hired away by someone else.

MickeyD's was never intended as a career option--at least not at the counter. Management, maybe, but someone has to be Hamburger U material to climb that ladder.

Back when kids worked during the summers and after school, burger flipping was one way to make pocket money and save up for their first car...

If people are depending on that to make a living, it's pretty sad out there.

I have some considerable ability to comment on this one. Dead end jobs and all.

Started my “career” quite literally at the bottom. Janitorial work. Never had the chance to go to college, except for a couple of classes I took over the years at CCs.

I now earn at the 88th percentile for all US workers. Worked my way up and out and became an expert in my field.

the lady is to be complimented for working...
but she does not understand how the world works.

if she has developed any skills that are in greater demand than slinging burgers, then she will be able to get (indeed, she will be offered) greater pay

if she has not developed any more skills, now is a great time for her to do it. (She can begin getting more job skills economically, too, by checking out what her local community college has to offer ....)

in the 10 years she’s been at McD’s, she could have completed an entire AA or AS degree program...and then quite a bit more, too.........by just taking one class per term.
just one class...

she could have become a nurse, for example...
or lots of other things that pay more than burgerVille...

and there are a lot of job skills that pay more for her...that don’t even require a degree... just a few courses....

A scripted street agitator moment that she is absolutely going to win 100% in the court of public opinion.

Big companies need to get a lot smarter about not taking the bait.

Guaranteed Hussein voter. When one tells these left wing imbeciles to get another job it’s always excuses. Every time.

She may be worth just $3.75 but the liberals hate the free market and won’t allow market rates. These $15 demands they are making now are beyond insane.
