Skip to comments.Video: CBS News Slams "Disastrous" Obamacare
Posted on 10/10/2013 7:07:35 PM PDT by Kaslin
A follow-up to this morning's post chronicling Obamacare's myriad failures; CBS News surveys the wreckage and renders an unavoidable verdict (via Hot Air):
CBS Calls Obamacare Website Launch 'Nothing Short of Disastrous'
"The president's signature achievement has become the butt of late night jokes...no one knows how many people have managed to enroll, and the administration refuses to release those numbers. The website's launch has been nothing short of disastrous. Media outlets have struggled to find anyone who's actually been successful."
If a one-year delay of the Obamacare mandate tax is good enough for Jon Stewart, Wolf Blitzer and the vast majority of the American people, why won't Democrats in Washington even consider it? To add insult to injury, how much did taxpayers fork over to build the non-functioning Obamacare website? According to government records, the figure appears to be north of $600 million, (somewhat appropriately) way over budget:
The exact cost to build Healthcare.gov, according to U.S. government records, appears to have been $634,320,919, which we paid to a company you probably never heard of: CGI Federal. The company originally won the contract back in 2011, but at that time, the cost was expected to run up to $93.7 million still a chunk of change, but nothing near where it ended up.
Three-and-a-half years and more than half-a-billion dollars later, the Obama administration has an unmitigated failure on its hands. This is why people don't trust big government to do big things, especially with spendthrift incompetents at the wheel. People can't enroll, passwords are being reset, insurance companies aren't receiving data -- and the flaws run so deep that they may not be resolved for "months," based on several expert assessments. In the meantime, as millions try to sign up and, the opening for rampant exploitive fraud grows larger. The Chicago Tribune warns its readers to be wary of scam artists, an admonition citizens would be wise to heed:
Phony ACA Insurance Cards: There is no Affordable Care Act "insurance card." The Better Business Bureau has issued a warning that con artists are trying lure people into providing Social Security numbers or bank account information so they can "send a new insurance card." With that information, the fraudsters can steal your identity. Remember, unlike Medicare, there are NO ACA cards.
Imposters posing as Navigators: The ACA created a designated breed of advisers known as "navigators," who generally work at nonprofits like the United Way or local agencies. Navigators are supposed to help answer questions and to help individuals enroll for coverage. Imposters are now calling and emailing unsuspecting consumers, posing as navigators and trying to steal their identities or sell them phony health insurance. Remember that NO ONE from the government will call you, email you or show up to your house regarding the ACA, so if one of these posers appears, hang up, hit delete or shut the door!
Medicare Card Scam: The Federal Trade Commission reports that Medicare-related complaints have skyrocketed from 117 in January to 2,164 in August. One new trick has the scammer saying that you need a new Medicare card under the new law. This is 100 percent false: there are no new Medicare cards as a result of the ACA. This scheme attempts to obtain your Medicare card because your Social Security number is printed on it, which allows for a new identity to be established.
Fake websites: The government's official website for ACA is http://www.healthcare.gov. However, cyber thieves are creating false sites with faux government seals that phish for personal information. Avoid any site EXCEPT healthcare.gov, because it could lead to identity theft or nasty computer viruses.
The sad reality is that if you think you've easily signed up for Obamacare, there's a very good chance that you're actually ensnared in a fraud. "Nothing short of disastrous," indeed. A new Associated Press poll shows that just seven percent (!) of Americans say the law's roll-out has "gone well." Who are these people? And haven't they heard that the process is "simple and user friendly"?
CBS can kiss their White Hut press access good bye.
I’m still waiting for my raise :-(
Obama: Premiums Will Decrease 3000% So You Should Get A Raise When H’care Is Passed
You know its a disaster when Jesse Jackson doesn’t want it called Obamacare.
Today on twitter he made the bizarre comment that “calling the Affordable Care Act “Obamacare” is like making an omelet without eggs.”
You can tell the fake sites easily, because in order to steal your personal information, they have to work. Just avoid anything that works.
As an aside, CBS doesn't seem to understand that healthcare.gov itself is a phishing site.
last I checked Botox isn’t on the list, no go Obunga, Sibelius. Two people destine to go down in history as the most hated ever.
I wonder if CBS will keep asking tough questions, or go back to sleep, and continue to support and defend the Bamster?
It turns out that you can’t just sit around in committees and mandate stuff. You actually have to roll up your sleeves and make things happen. If the leader spends all his time talking, and not doing, his followers do the same.
“Somebody plug that hole in that oil well.”
“Somebody come up with some green energy ideas.”
The only thing he is capable of doing is wasting money. Oh, and reading from teleprompters.

His tweet kind of reminds me of Jesse himself. Wanting Jesse Jackson to be coherent is like making a statement without a brain.

——————————————————————————————So let’s keep calling Congress and tell them to delay it for a year before people really see how bad it is! Let’s get this off the table for the 2014 elections before it’s too late.
Obamacare should be ruled unconstitutional because of all the changes, especially giving the exemptions out to unions, companies, etc. but not to John Q. Public. It’s a different law now.
Gee — half a billion.
That could have opened up a few clinics ...gotten a few more doctors paid, put through medical schools, bought a few million people their needed medications.
Just give the people their freaking MONEY BACK and stop the FREAKING waste. It’s almost just nauseating anymore.
They had 31/2 years to get the website running, but they wait until the very last minute and they hired someone who has never done a website.
I completely agree.
The website is owned and run by Canadians who have experiece with the Canadian NHS, that’s how they got the contract. Don’t ask for details, I read it in the past week in my local paper that complained in a front page story about the money going to non-American developers.
How can you expect a system that computes costs and fees to mk any sense if it is based on redistribution according to the disabilitybsabve bond to the state (ie. Benefiting from precondiion preferences).
No such system can figure a price. This is a big joke.
.... Yup .... that will be yet another added expense to pile onto the premiums which will make this Affordable Care even more Unaffordable for most of the dumbed down electorate!!
.... I wonder why nobody even thinks of reporting these little informational tidbits about this unaffordable Affordable Care Act?"
No, the attention is being drawn to the process of signing up for Obamacare, not the disaster of the policies and requirements.
Pretty soon they will be reporting that all is good now.
Leftist can obscure reality better than anyone else.
“The website is owned and run by Canadians who have experiece with the Canadian NHS ...”
Yeah - SOME experience ...
Read it and weep:
If it had been delayed a year, this would be the big news next October, not this October. Not a good lead-in to the election. Who knows what the news will be focused on in a year. And I don’t believe the programmers would have fixed the site before release with another year. If they even knew it had these fundamental problems now, Obama would have taken the GOP up on the delay. And if they couldn’t anticipate it now, they wouldn’t have next year either.
If there are no cards how does one prove one has insurance? Or is that on the honor system?
Why won’t the republicans have “talking points”? All they have to do is every time they’re interviewed is ask “Where hundreds of million dollars go set up the website? That’s money that could be used to pay military families.”
Fustercluck, thy name is Obama.
Yep, the Honor System, kind of like being a Democrat Voter.
You get a card from the insurance company you’re enrolled with. The exchanges don’t do anything but figure your rates and pass your info onto the company you chose. In many cases that’ll be the company the individual already has, but with reduced coverage.
The disaster of the Web Site is an apt harbinger of what lies in the future.
Having a insurance card does not guarantee you that you will be seen by a Physician and that you will be seen in a timely manner. The whole thing as baloney
If Wolf Blitzer, CBS, Jon Stewart, et al, see the massive failure of the registration process already, we just need to let Obama's signature accomplishment "twist in the wind" a few weeks more and even dingy Harry will be begging the Republicans to help him delay all of Obamacare one more year.
If 20,000,000 of the 40,000,000 uninsured are going to sign up in the next 200 days, that's 100k successful registrations a day. Connecticut's Healthcare website has signed up 1,700 folks in 11 days. That's more than the Feds have throughout the rest of the country.
An Ebay or Amazon might triage and patch-up a massive Web app that is massively failing in 2-3 months, but not with Federal govt. red tape applied by Obama and HHS.
