CBS News ^ | October 9, 2013

An indigenous woman squats in pain after giving birth, her newborn still bound by the umbilical cord and lying on the ground. It's a photograph that horrified Mexicans because of where it took place: the lawn outside a medical clinic where the woman had been denied help, and it struck a nerve in a country where inequity is still pervasive.

The government of the southern state of Oaxaca announced Wednesday that it has suspended the health center's director, Dr. Adrian Cruz, while officials conduct state and federal investigations into the Oct. 2 incident.

The mother, Irma Lopez, 29, told The Associated Press that she and her husband were turned away from the health center by a nurse who said she was only eight months pregnant and "still not ready" to deliver.

Ma’am, your healthcare coverage entitles you to give birth on the lawn. Good news, though, we can upgrade you to Kentucky Blue Grass.

At least they let her have the child on the lawn of the hospital. A security guard would run you off the lawn at a hospital here in the US.

indigenous woman?

Ancetry within Mexico dating to pre-Columbus times. Basically, the Mexican version of an American Indian.

I would guess the lawn is cleaner than the inside of a Mexican hospital...

You might say this Mexican was born to the lawn care business.

Births on the lawn of a participating hospital due to a long waiting line will be a no-no, regulated by some footnote in the 2200 pages of ObamaCare.

She is a Mexican in Mexico. An actual Mexican Citizen that did not run across the border to give birth to an anchor baby.

An indigenous person in Mexico is a Mexican Indian who probably does not speak Spanish. They speak an ancient language that is not a written language. They are generally treated like crap by the Mexican government. Most of them are not born in hospitals. Many do not have birth certificates, cannot get a Mexican passport, cannot get a Mexican voter ID, and cannot go to school. They live off of the land like chickens. That is why the Mexicans call them “pollos.” (...and the Mexicans call us racists)

Makes me wonder if Americans will be going to Mexico in a decade or two to get better healthcare in Mexico...
