Ryan Steps in Cooly to move GOP Forward
CNN ^ | 10/11/13 | Leigh Ann Caldwell

For more than a week into a government shutdown, Paul Ryan kept a low profile amid the political uproar.

When he finally emerged, the time was ripe for someone with his conservative cred and fiscal bona fides to step in and try to corral his bucking Republican Party.

While a group of conservatives were driving the agenda in the quagmire over spending, Obamacare and the looming debt limit, Ryan dropped an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal outlining the Republican path forward.

I’m not really sure what you mean, but I’m just saying, it appears to be pretty savvy politics on his part.

It's savvy if his next full-time gig involves becoming a political commentator on CNN. Otherwise, he just put the kibosh on his White House hopes, assuming he wants to run as the GOP nominee. That's assuming that his attacks on SS and Medicare haven't already erased his viability as a presidential candidate.

Paul Ryan took obamacare off the table. He can drop dead!

Seems to be the role the GOP-E has for Ryan. During the campaign, they had him take the 47% off the table in his debate with Biden when he apologized for it. I mark that as the beginning of the end of the Romney campaign.

So, Ryan is winning praise from CNN.

Deft? You must be joking--or being paid!

Is that CNN or Ryan distancing himself from the Conservative position (or at CNN's characterization thereof)--or both?

It’s the Washington culture. Ryan loves it more than common sense. He should go pay for his own time in the gym again..........what a phony he’s become.

Too many influential Conservatives (of whom Ryan is only one) are doing too little.

It’s how we got into this jackpot in the first place!

How much time do they think we have, anyway???!!!

Who the he%$ do these people think they are being SO cavalier and casual with OUR futures and fortunes??? We didn’t elect them so they could go to Washington and play God with our lives!!!!!!!!!!

Ryan wants ObamaCare taken off the table but is championing screwing with SS and Medicare instead. He’s politically tone deaf.

The more Ryan sells out the American people, the better his press on CNN.

Yep. Judge a man by both the friends he makes and the enemies he makes.

If CNN likes him...

You nailed it. Ryan is exactly the kind of "Republican maverick" those scumbags love.

Yeah, by “moving the GOP forward” CNN means truckling to the left,
so Paul can get some laundered gym towels. Fresh out of patience w/ GOP ‘squishes.’ All of them together aren’t worth one Cruz.

Michael Medved finally outed himself as one of the moderate quislings. I suspect he thinks this Ryan thing is just awesome too. I’ll have to listen on my way home tonight.

Especially when it never works??

That's the real puzzler.
My guess is the rats have stealthily infiltrated the consultant class.

Medved is chief spokesman for the surrender caucus. I used to turn on his radio show in the afternoons sometimes, but beginning with the Cruz filibsuter, he’s gone total jellyfish, complete coward. I cannot take Medved anymore.

It's pure RINO myth to suggest that conservative approaches don't work, as history clearly has shown, and which is supported by the 40% of the voting populace that identifies with conservative principles, while only 20% identify as liberals.

The fashionable mainstream has mortgaged our children's and grand children's futures, from which they and we may not escape, absent war, starvations, destitution and pestilence, not to mention the destruction of their forefather's powerful country and its Constitution.

I met him at a KVI picnic and we actually got to talk for a while. I used to consider him the best person on talk radio. It was his crazy support of Romney VERY early in the game that got me wondering. Since then he has jumped many sharks right before my eyes. It’s ruined his show. Interestingly, I’ll now read a story during the day on FR that has non-democrats split and, when he mentions the issue on the show, he comes down on the side opposite mine every single time. I could win serious money betting on it.
