Some grocery and food shoppers who were trying to used government benefit cards to pay got a rude awakening on Saturday morning: their EBT cards were not working.
A check here in Central New York, however, showed that grocery chains were apparently unaffected.
We are being told that a technical services vendor (Xerox) had a power outage which did affect being able to pay with a benefits card in several states. As of early Saturday afternoon, the debit system was back up and the SNAP program was being rebooted, with expectations that all services would be back up shortly.

My wife found that out this morning. Checkout was asking whether it was EBT or other payment. As soon as she was told EBT was down, she checked out, loaded up, and then went back in for backup supplies.

I saw a sign at the grocery store the other day that EBT would be unavailable all day either today or tomorrow, I don’t remember which.
Wait ‘til they fail completely. Then the freebie crowd will really have something to rally around. Its why that exec order exists that will let Obama confiscate the food supplies.
Worked in one for a while. The amount of “essential” stuff they could buy shocked me. Once saw one buy a $75 birthday cake and about $65 of Häagen-Dazs ice cream on food stamps.

My former neighbor, got divorced and went on welfare. She buys the steaks for family bbqs with her food stamp card. Not even kidding.

there is a tv commercial for something like nomorehunger.org, or something similar. anyhow, they usually get an actor like matt damon, and he says “hi, my name is steve, I lost my job and wonder how I can feed my family now”
then, matt looks up and asks the real steve, how did I do.
well, there is another one with some female actress, and when she looks up to her real life counterpart, the real woman is at least 250 pounds, at least.
and they are trying to tell us she cant feed her family?
