Obama Bites Tongue as Cruz Confronts Him at White House Meeting

Sen. Ted Cruz seized the opportunity afforded by a White House invitation to confront President Barack Obama over his healthcare plan.

Cruz said he appreciated the chance to go see the president — but then presented him with "substantial" changes for Obamacare.

In the meeting, also attended by dozens of other Republican senators, Cruz refrained from using the word "defund," reports Politico. Instead he told Obama that all sides need to "provide substantial relief to the millions of people who are hurting because of Obamacare, who are losing their jobs, being forced into part-time work and losing their health insurance."

Cruz said he told the president that a deal to reopen the government must also provide relief for those affected by the Affordable Care Act.

One participant at the gathering told The Dallas Morning News that Obama seemed to "bite his tongue," while Cruz was talking.

Cruz said Friday he's happy there are finally discussions being held.

"That is an improvement," he said. "There was an awful lot of talk, but then, at the end of the day, the president still said he wouldn't negotiate."

But while Cruz has been focused on defunding Obamacare, leading the charge on attacking the insurance program as a condition for reopening the government, he denied Friday he's responsible for the government shutdown, instead blaming Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

"I opposed the shutdown from Day One," insisted the Texas freshman senator, who has come under fire from senior Republican lawmakers, who say he is fighting against Obamacare without having a real strategy.

"I think it was wrong that President Obama and Harry Reid forced the shutdown," Cruz told reporters. "They forced the shutdown because they wouldn’t compromise on Obamacare."

True, this clown in the office of Pres acts as if the Constitution and the Bill of Rights are optional.

That’s to be expected from among many other vile things, a Marxist.

Great (/s). Cruz took the bait. There’s no reason to be invited into the lion’s den except to be used or manipulated. Gee, I wonder what 44/2 is going to do...

Oh, darn. I wish Cruz and Obama had gotten into a debate, no teleprompters or notes allowed. What people would pay to watch that would balance the budget!

Seriously! I’m in!

(This is actually our problem. Our leaders are fake and propped up. We’d do we’ll with a real one, a la George Washington, riding first into battle, and even those with cojones enough to speak the truth, like Reagan)

The senior senators are angry because Cruz “didn’t have a strategy”? He got more traction in one week than they’ve gotten in 3 years. The republican leadership is so INCOMPETENT it’s beyond belief.

There is not doubt that you do not want to debate Ted Cruz, no matter from where you come from..

Someone said that he has been groomed all his life....for now...being a US Senator...but he is so far above everyone else its scary...

He makes people like that idiot Peter King and the likes of John McCain look like they are low information voters.

His quick take down of the Rhode Island senator and Van JOnes was classic.

I am sure... quite sure that Obama didn’t open his mouth or look Cruz in the eye when Cruz spoke to him...

My only regret is that I wish he had the machoness of a REpresentative Duncan...or the boyish good looks of Paul Ryan... or the REagan smile... He still looks a bit too much like an Evangelica preacher...

But then again... I don’t know the man...

DOES ANYONE OUT THERE KNOW ABOUT CREW...AS FAR AS HIS PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES... HIS SPORT...HOBBIES ETC...?

I’VE HEARD ONE SIDE SAY HE SPEAK FLUENT SPANISH... ANOTHER THAT HE DOESN’T SPEAK A WORD.

Please... is there a Ted Cruz historian out there?

"We don't intend to turn the Republican Party over to the traitors in the battle just ended. We will have no more of those candidates who are pledged to the same goals as our opposition and who seek our support. Turning the Party over to the so-called moderates wouldn’t make any sense at all." -- President Ronald Reagan

God Bless and keep Ronald Reagan. There went a good and decent man. Lord knows I pray this country to be blessed with his leadership again......

You know. I'm getting a little tired of people fooling themselves thinking they are incompetant. They know exactly what they are doing. Cruz has forced their hand and they don't like it.

...after eight years of questioning Obama’s citizenship.

Ted Cruz is unquestionably a US Citizen by birth. Obama MAY be, we just don't know. As of NBC status, I understand your position, but that debate seems to have been held and lost. Put it this way; if BHO is Constitutionally qualified (and BHO IS President, too bad for us), the Ted Cruz is also qualified, for sure.

Really.

At $49.95 a pop on pay-per-view we probably could balance the budget.

Ted Cruz is the most courageous man in the country right now.

By all indications, he'll probably continue to be the most courageous man in the country til Zero is gone.

If we had just half a dozen more like him on Capitol Hill, the entire left would fold like a wet blanket.

I thought his life is in danger, walking and talking there on that stage with not even a podium in front of him and telling it like it is. I fear for his life.

The deep left wouldn't dare touch a hair on Ted Cruz' head. If they did, that act would mobilize the center-right in this country like it was 1861.

It would be the end of them. That's a fight they would not win, and they know it.

WASHINGTON, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) — U.S. President Barack Obama on Saturday afternoon is meeting
Democratic senators in a bid to find a fiscal deal as the first U.S. government shutdown
in 17 years drags on into its 12th day and the negotiation between the White House and
House Republicans stalled.

In a hastily arranged meeting, Obama, a Democrat, will meet with Senate Democrats in the
White House to discuss a way out of the fiscal deadlock, the White House said on Saturday.
