If the situation wasn't so serious, it would be too funny for words. On the one side, there are Obama and Reid clinging to NO negotiations. On the other side are the Stupid Party RINOs who want to surrender, but the Donkeys won't negotiate. The current GOPee “leadership” is dumber than dirt. They couldn't lead a pack of randy homosexuals to a gay bath house with a wad of $1,000 bills and a wallet full of credit cards. Ugh.

Well, there is a lot of talk about changing the mandatory minimum sentencing that came about due to the WOD, so at least there is headway being made on that stupid law - some more reasonable discussion is being had about that.

Can I point to something other than prohibition directly? Not off the top of my head, but I am sure there are some good examples - perhaps the stamp act...

I’ll see what I can muster, but the person who first said what I echoed originally about getting a bad law repealed by fully implementing it was pretty erudite to begin with. It’s too bad he’s not alive to instruct us today! His quote was “The best way to get a bad law repealed is to enforce it strictly”. - Abraham Lincoln

The Assault Weapons ban. Not technically a repeal, but effectively one.

Much appreciated on the assist there. There have been others, I know there have, I just don’t have an encyclopedic memory for this specific task :)

It IS absurd how the pubbies NEVER take (ALL of) the golden opportunities to tell the American people what is going on....they SHOULD expose the *propagandizing* being done by the dims...but they won't.

It's almost like they're (Pubbies) in on the same pay outs/kickbacks that the libs are in on....hmmmm. And, they're too busy bashing folks like Ted Cruz and Mike Lee to expose the dirty tricks of the Rats!

There are several Jim Crow laws that come to mind also...

Thanks for your replies. In the case of Jim Crow, I just can’t wait 80 years. In general, I would prefer a state solution to a state bad law, as opposed to a SCOTUS decision and some Fed laws voted by everybody but the offending states (natch).

An example of VERY bad law being chipped at is in the aftermath of SCOTUS’ Roe v. Wade. It is always two steps forward, one back, while the termites go around making more bad laws (nurse abortionists in CA).

If we assume that abortion restrictions would have been relaxed in about half of the country, I think that the fight against would not have been intense, but would be more successful.

I do admit that the Brady Law galvanized gun support.

I can also think of many laws that were awful, that are as string as ever. Medicare/Medicaid exactly coincides with the continuing rise in health care costs, and is certainly a component of it. Nonetheless, it remains sacred, with one of out own, George the Elder, adding scrips to the pile.

If this is a Prohibition type bad law (because of its breadth, and direct effect on so many people’s day to day lives), and is repealed, great. I just would not bank on it.

While I agree wholeheartedly with your overarching complaints, the problem with all of the laws we have on the books is specifically none of them are being strictly applied.

If all laws were applied as written and no exemptions or carve outs given and were not applied based on the whims of whoever is in charge, then I think a lot more laws would be repealed.

Agreed. I know of a fellow, now deceased, whose wife was unfaithful and wanted to divorce him. He countered witha FAULT divorce in CT. NO ONE wanted to touch it. One of his attorneys even defied his express wishes in court. The law, however, was still on the books, generally applied ONLY in deportation cases (to keep the immigrant from being deported after a short marriage).

Also in CT, laws against adultery remained on the books, completely unenforced, until one unfortunate but enterprising cuckold sent a P.I. to the hotel and got his wife arrested. It was that case that prompted CT to get the (not necessarily bad but utterly unenforced) law repealed.

“I pity you.”

no need to pity me its the country that needs your pity as it suffers from the subservient morons, and Vichy republicans that now are in the majority...
