Booker says Lonegan, tea party playing politics with public safety

ATLANTIC CITY — Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Cory Booker once again linked Republican opponent Steve Lonegan to the federal government shutdown today, suggesting some Republicans are playing politics with public safety.

Booker, the mayor of Newark, stopped in Atlantic City where 51 firefighters will be laid off at the end of November due to local budget cuts. The city is hoping a federal grant may avert some of those layoffs, but its application is not being processed during the shutdown, according to union officials.

“It could mean that some of the people behind me — or who are represented by some of the people behind me – are going to lose their jobs,” Booker said, standing in front of a fire house that was shuttered after Hurricane Sandy. “That shows that politicians down in Washington with the tea party are more concerned with political gain than with public concern.”

Government Shutdown Become Major Talking Point In NJ Senate Special Election - October 14, 2013 - In contrast to Booker’s condemnation of the partial federal government shutdown, Lonegan told supporters at a rally in Medford he would hold the line with fighting the start of the next phase of the Affordable Care Act.

“Yes I want to hold the line because I’m not going to bankrupt this country for my children,” says Lonegan, “we need to cut spending and cut deeply.”

“What’s on the ballot in New Jersey is the future of the Constitution of the United States, the Bill of Rights, and the meaning of individual liberty,” Lonegan said.

And for Booker, speaking in Camden, it’s a referendum on what he calls the Tea Party government shutdown.

“All of these views are representative of the extreme right of our country — a Tea Party that would rather shut down our government than bring people together and move forward,” Booker said.

Booker is a jughead. He’s playing politics with other people’s money.

Has Krispy Kreme endorsed Lonegan or Booker in this race? Just wonderin’.

Oh, he endorsed Lonegan but hasn’t really done much other than what he had to do. He and Booker are known to be close. Heck, even Rand Paul raised more money for Lonegan than Christie.

Hey, be thankful that Booker is actually in New Jersey. Being in Newark doing something would be a “first”.

The more I learn about him, the less I like him. Sort of a Jesse Jackson/Al Sharpton wannabe.

“The more I learn about him, the less I like him.”

Like the media-anointed “rock star” in the White House, this one is a complete fabrication. Now “rock star” for blacks means they don’t smoke crack and they don’t have babies out of wedlock.

High standards...
