A 59-year-old small business owner from Selbyville spent over seven hours between phone calls and the computer, but her patience earned her the distinction of being the first person from Delaware to sign up for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act.

When everything was done Baker said she found coverage for about $700 /month. She and her husband had been paying $1600/month. He now has his own insurance, which is written through a private carrier.

Baker wouldn't describe the type of plan she eventually signed up for, but said she didn't qualify for subsidies.

The local paper has her story saying she ‘saved’ $150 month on her premiums. No reference to the comparable deductibles or how her husband is now being covered. Delaware’s uninsured , which this Obamacare plan was supposed to be about, will be in large part covered by putting more people on Medicaid. We already have 1 in 5 residents soaking up those ‘free’ benefits.

Yet again, we’re not “insuring the uninsured” as we were promised. We’re simply giving our tax money to people who proved they don’t need it because they were already able to afford health insurance before! Disgusting...

More proof that the uninsured generally don’t want health insurance. Whatever it costs, they would rather keep the money and not buy it. Health insurance was not “unavailable” in our country before to anyone. They chose not to buy it before and they’ll continue to choose not to buy it under Obamacare. The only exception being people who couldn’t get coverage for pre-existing conditions. And if we had simply set up a fund for those people who insurance denied, it would’ve probably cost less than it did to make the POS Barrycare web site.
