Reid accuses Boehner of trying to 'torpedo' progress toward ending stalemate

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid blasted House Speaker John Boehner on Tuesday after leaks circulated of a plan that House Republicans might offer to end the spending and debt stalemate.

“We felt blindsided by the news from the House,” Reid said on the Senate floor in a scathing attack on Boehner and his House GOP members. The Nevada Democrat said “extremist Republicans in the House of Representatives are attempting to torpedo" the negotiations which he and Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell have been conducting in the past few days.

Reid’s torrent of criticism came hours after he and McConnell both said they’d made progress in their work toward a plan to end the partial government shutdown and lift the government’s borrowing limit.

The Reid-McConnell talks came as the federal government neared the point of exhausting its ability to borrow and running out of cash on hand to pay its bills.

Although the House Republicans reportedly are working on plan that would end the shutdown, Boehner told reporters “There have been no decisions on what exactly we will do” and left open the questions of whether or when any House GOP bill would be put to a floor vote

Hey Boehner, wanna be a hero?

Cut the gov’t by 10%, delay Obamacare a year, PASS THE BILL AND GO HOME.

Let Obama decide what to do with it.

Reid accuses Boehner of trying to 'torpedo' progress toward ending stalemate

Torpedoing it by refusing to unconditionally surrender? That would be about the entry in the Democrat PR lexicon.

The arrogance and total disrespect and incivility shown by Reid, Schumer, Boxer, Pelosi and the rest of the leftist clan in Congress is reason enough to slow down and ignore their threats. Time is our friend - the story is that Obama can’t lead. Use the news from Fitch on our credit downgrade as a driver to hold the line on spending. Push back hard and change the subject to how the Obama/Reid proposal drives us down the toilet.

"So Boehner and McConnell are working against each other?"

Cruz/Lee (from the Senate) are controlling the puppet Boehner through the TEA Partiers in the House, thereby working against McConnell in a roundabout way.

I sure hope that the majority of Americans are getting as fed up as I am with the disgusting rhetoric and behavior of the Dems. WHAT AN EMBARRASSMENT THEY ARE!

Shutdown should be the new budget.

Everything is working fine as is.

Well, good enough for government work.

It’s either that, or the real solution:

Treasury creates its own dollars to make up deficits...

and Treasury stops borrowing altogether.

New world order not so happy with that idea.

Why would Reid feel blindsided? Do not spending bills originate in the House of Representatives? How can that be a surprise? Maybe Reid flunked congress 101.

Reid behaves like he is ignorant of the respective roles of the legislative bodies, or he believes that he can unilaterally rewrite them. His not preparing a budget for five years, and demanding an Omnibus bill is contrary to normal practice. The government is funded through the appropriations process, called Regular Order (piecemeal), until Harry Reid unilaterally changed the budgeting process for the convenience of the Senate and the Administration.

Dear Sniveler Reid,

Please tell us why our government has not had a budget in FIVE years.
Does not the failure of Congress and the President to work to an approved budget constitute a failure to perform your sworn duties?
Why are you and the rest of Congress exempted from a “healthcare” law that you claim is so wonderful?
When it comes time to ride a rail out of Washington D.C., would you prefer oak or hickory?
