Rep. Barletta Statement on House CR and Debt Limit Vote 10/17/13
WASHINGTON Congressman Lou Barletta, PA-11, today voted for legislation to fund the federal government through January 15, 2014 and extend the debt limit until February 7, 2014. Barletta issued the following statement:
I never wanted the government to shut down, nor did I want to default on Americas financial obligations. After weeks of attempts at negotiations and many House votes to reopen the government, I believe we are finally on a path to move forward and get back to the work of governing the country. While the final legislation we passed tonight does not even approach what I would have preferred, my love for this county and my concern for the well being of her people trump everything.
We cannot risk a default on our financial obligations, which would damage our standing in the world and threaten the retirement accounts of countless millions of Americans. With this action, we reopen the government, restore needed services, get people back to work, and ease global financial concerns.
As a former mayor, I always want to find solutions to problems. During this prolonged debate, the landscape was continually changing, as were the possible paths to common ground. I worked hard and kept looking for answers. In the end, I chose to side with the American people and avoid near certain financial and fiscal disaster.
Its important to note that this is only a temporary arrangement, and I am sincerely hopeful that many of my concerns about Obamacare and government spending can be addressed as we move past this crisis.

This guy is such a disappointment it hurts.
How many people would run their own finances like they run the government? It is a simple question.
What a tool.
I’ve had people tell me flat out that I can’t equate personal finances with government spending...they are not the same.
Apparently the mathematics of compounding interest varies between entities.
Loser talk. He’s need to be primaried too.
I contributed to him for the last time!
Did he talk a good game to defeat the Dem incumbent? I’m new to this district.
I believe we are finally on a path to move forward and get back to the work of governing the country.

I believe we are on the path to an Obama bankruptcy and you are one of those helping us towards Obama’s goal
“I worked hard and kept looking for answers.” I’m sure he did.. Along with about 500 other elected Sen/Congress. Worked hard to find out what the very few players had planned from day to day.. With all those folks in DC, how many actually were involved? Elected that is? Maybe 10? Worked hard, more like waited like the rest of us.. Well, until told what to do anyway.
Not the right ones, but we hope you enjoy the parting gifts, and thanks for playing.

Attention Comgressman: I neither need nor want to be governed.
Seek first to understand your role as representative, then behave as if you comprehend.
“Behold! The Northeastern Pennsylvania Rhinoceros in its native habitat.”
Yeah...he’s in liberal land. He wants to keep getting elected. That’s why Marino, my rep, voted AGAINST it. We are further west of Scranton/WB and are much more conservative and he wants to get re-elected so he voted against it!
after its horn has been cut off by Obama the Poacher.
Lou did his immigration thing a few years back with a city ordinance on rental units aimed at illegals, but it just seemed to be a stepping stone to higher office.
Barletta was backed to the hilt by the liberal GOP establishment in this state and then I knew his true colors.
