PHOENIX Get sent to jail in Arizonas Maricopa County and youll be experiencing some serious life changes. And for those who eat meat, that includes going vegetarian.
County Sheriff Joe Arpaio is no stranger to controversy. Over the years, he has made seemingly countless numbers of national headlines. As recently as August, the five-time elected sheriff was in the news after announcing that his deputies would be required to carry firearms at all times, even while off duty.
Arpaios latest move is a plan to transition all of his inmates in the countys eight jails to a vegetarian diet. On the surface, it might sound like a health-conscious move from the 81-year-old lawman. But Arpaio said the change is all about saving the county money.
Little by little, this is the first step to go vegetarian, he told Phoenix affiliate Fox 10. There will be no more meat on the menu, well save $100,000.
Instead, the jails will serve soy. In the interview with Fox, Arpaio showed how one stew-like dish will be prepared using the soy along with a combination of carrots, peas and other vegetables.
It looks great. It looks like stew, Arpaio said while laughing. Im getting hungry.
They should add estrogen to the meals too.
EXCELLENT!
He takes a beloved paradigm of the left to make prison more like ‘prison’ for the perps in stir, preventing serious repercussions from the libs.
Awesome. Stick it to ‘em.
Rather than drugs they will be smuggling in bacon and beef. As long as their basic needs of protein etc are met then why could anyone have a problem - I must say though I would get angry without meat in my diet!
Mel
Their was a time of prison farms where the inmates helped grow the crops and raise hogs, got to see it with my own eyes as a kid. Can’t do that now, and Sheriff Joe would be lambasted for it, and it maybe to hot in Az for raising livestock. But my point is, they have taken that option off the table with political correctness, and that is a shame in many ways...
In the 1800s feeding lobsters to prisoners was considered cruel and unusual punishment.
Now I see EBT card users getting lobster.
They will save $ plus it will be fun fighting the ACLU, since I betcha many of the ACLU lawyers are themselves vegetarians.
People can survive eating nothing but potatoes. All vegetables contain fats, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, water, and protein — the six nutrients humans require.
Yay for the sheriff!
I suggest you stay out of Sheriff Joe's jail system then, 'cause he won't care :-)
Leftist “gun grabbers” are all the same. They have no clue. “Requiring his police officers to carry their weapons at all times”, as if that’s unusual. Most Departments require their officers to carry at all times.
The Humane Society could supply some meat.
Sounds like it’s already baked in.
I wonder if man boobs will become fashionable, just as below-the-butt, unbelted pants did.
No more bologna sammiches???
Ahh, yes, the P-farm. A couple of my shipmates had either served time in them or had been given the choice to enlist or be incarcerated in them.
Oh I love Sheriff Joe - just don’t want to be in his jail LOL
Wow, that Jorge Ramos is a typical member of the media, isn’t he? Looks like a Hispanic Anderson Cooper.
