Your analogy to Mount Rushmore is totally off base.

Mount Rushmore will not last forever. Its stability is questionable, and effort has been expended to track its movement. We could go ahead and destroy it now based on the fact that we don't know how long it will last.

If it isn't yours, don't break it. Why is that concept so hard? If you need a sign telling you not to destroy things in a park, you don't belong there without adult supervision.

Pressing charges is entirely appropriate when a bunch of hoodlums deface public property for their own amusement.

Really? So we should destroy Mount Rushmore, but upsetting a minor rock formation is defacing public property?

Look, I think these guys acted stupidly. But its not criminal—this whole thing is being blown out of proportion.
