President Obama’s newly nominated pick to lead the sprawling Department of Homeland Security is a major Democratic donor who used to work with the president’s 2008 campaign, leading one senator to call the choice “deeply concerning.”

The president nominated former Pentagon lawyer Jeh Johnson on Friday afternoon. …

But his background, aside from being a trusted legal adviser helping oversee those two wars (Iraq and Afghanistan), is also that of a big-money Democratic donor. … Federal campaign finance records show that over the past decade, Johnson has contributed more than $100,000 to Democratic candidates and groups. During the 2008 presidential campaign, Johnson donated more than $33,000 to Obama’s campaign, federal records show. …

Don't the fat-cat donors get appointed ambassador to Liechtenstein? Obama is 100% ‘in your face’.

Not to worry. The Senate Republicans will roll over on this nomination like they have rolled over on everything else that Obama has done. This now is a one party socialist country. As with most things in life, it takes two to tango, and the Republicans have been more than willing partners as Obama and Company continue to implement their agenda.

A hack shill who worked his way up the political ladder and through the black labyrinths of DC intrigues and cronyisms....a lackey noticeable only because he moonlights as an efficient fund-raising money-maker for the dark side.

Even Obama had more experience for an important position than this shrewdly-ambitious, sycophantic mouthpiece.

The last director was incompetent. What Difference Does It Make? It all goes back to the boss who is a moslem sympathizer and an open border guy.

If we were serious about security we would have sealed the border, reduced immigration from moslem countries, fired Holder and everyone involved in Fast and Furious, and made it harder to come here and stay starting September 12, 2001.

These people aren’t serious, they are just predictable politicians.

"Federal campaign finance records show that over the past decade, Johnson has contributed more than $100,000 to Democratic candidates and groups." WTF? How could he donate that much as a Federal Gov employee? There are laws against that. TC

For crying out loud, Obama should hire someone who never worked in security but worked in an Ice Cream Shop.

Dear Leatherneck, Good question. I’m guessing he made the big money donations during his NON-DoD employee years. Here is his old official DoD biography still online.

Paying back two of his key constituencies--blacks and gays. Johnson played a big part in dismantling "don't ask, don't tell," according to an article I saw yesterday. If the Republicans couldn't stop an incompetent white hack like Hagel from being confirmed, no way they can stop a black nominee from being confirmed.

Johnson graduated from Columbia Law School in 1982, so his ties to Obama could go way back. At least Obama supposedly transferred to Columbia in 1981.

Johnson is just another sign of Obama's determination to make all the important agencies of the federal government into parts of his political machine, to be used against his enemies. Once confirmed, Johnson will probably discover that the Tea Party is a bigger threat than any Islamic terrorists.

What’s amazing to me is how little some of the Obama donors have given in relation to what they’ve received—powerful positions, Solyndra, HHS contracts, ambassadorships.

The ROI is incredible!

Quite possibly a sacrificial nominee who is intended to run straight into a brick wall so that the person Obama REALLY wants becomes palatable and sails through confirmation.

Which is what a lot of people think Bush did with his nomination of Harriett Meyers to the Supreme Court (with Alito being the eventual nominee/confirmee).
