I really cannot figure out why we are always likened to Confederates. There are lots of minority people in our party and there would be more if the Left wasn’t so intimidating/scathing of the minorities who are Conservative.

It is an insult that resonates with libs in general and black libs in particular. Reason and rats are mutually exclusive.

It's an Alinsky tactic, the subtext of which is that TEA Party Conservatives are necessarily racist by associating the movement with the Confederacy, never mind the overlooked fact that the old time secessionists and slave owners were all Democrats, and that it was the Republican Party that ended slavery and then fought the Ku Klux Klan (again all Democrats).

Because they know most low information voters don’t know that Lincoln was a Republican, most KKKs were Democrats and civil rights would not have passed if not for Republicans.

I remember being taught in college gov’t class that Republicans just eventually became the racist party while Democrats did the reverse. I gave that teacher a run for his money.

I surmise that Confederate label is intended to suggest pro-state power, limited power federal government. And being labeled as pro-state power is probably intended to rattle skeletons for descendants of slaves. Corrections welcome.

I am proud of my confederate ancestors, especially the ones who rode with Quantrill after a few family members were murdered by Red Legs from Kansas) - at least they fought. In comparison, I have done nothing. I hope to change that.
