Afghan special forces commando defects to insurgents taking weapons with him

An Afghan special forces commander, trained by the US, has defected to insurgents fighting international forces, taking with him a Humvee armoured vehicle packed with weapons, according to local officials.

It is the latest setback to the Afghan National Army (ANA), which is struggling to retain troops as it takes control of security throughout the country.

Shuja-Ul Mulk Jalala, governor of the eastern province of Kunar, said Museeb Khan had joined his uncle, a feared Hezb-i-Islami commander in the Shegal Valley, during last week’s religious festival of Eid.

He was an officer with a special force unit charged with launching operations against Islamist fighters.

With some soldiers already on leave for the holiday, Khan offered money to the rest so they could also take time off, said Mr Jalala.

Well, we WERE committed to the old phrase, “War on terror” but then after Bush's successful “Surge” we elected a metro-sexual ninny. From that day forward, the Al-Qaeida decided to step up the insurgency and drive the Westerners out ASAP. What's left is a residue of what once was resolve.
Reminds me of Nixon's “Vietnamizaton’ policy which was supposed to phase out US troops and supplant them with solid, relabel South Vietnamese who would take the fight to the VC.
Well, just as in Vietnam, with no long term support, the Afghani house of cards will fall very quickly and Al_Qaieda will move right back in to where they were in 2001.

We sure do a great job of winning the hearts and minds.... Either fight it to win or get the hell out.

Just another attempt at “Nation-building” that failed and cost billions and so many lives. We should have blasted them and then pulled out. See them moving in again, blast ‘em again...and again...and again.

Instead we become a static force, sitting duck with an arm tied behind our backs a la’ Vietnam. The enemy knows our will is like Mr. Gumby. It's a war of attrition that they love, we hate, hence, we leave.

No, everything is Bush's fault - have you forgotten?
The child king is a Nobel Peace prize laureate - he can only attack with drones, hands clean...

When the Bamster told them our 2014 withdrawal date, many of our assets dried up over night. Why should they help when we’re hanging them out to dry?

Won’t be surprised if more of this occurs. The departure will be ugly.

Iraq too. The White House sabotaged the solid relationship with Iraq it inherited from the Bush Administration. A stable, prosperous Iraq—which was in reach in 2009—would have vindicated Bush and contradicted all of Obama’s 2008 anti-surge rhetoric. The new media ignores Obama’s treachery but history is likely to take note of it.

You win a weekend for two at Martha's Vineyard with the POTUS and the FLOTUS. Plenty of Kobe beef sandwiches, fine wine and rounds of golf...

BTW FLOTS in Hebrew slang means fart. When I write FLOTUS Michelle, I am reminded of passing gas...

So, instead of working for the terrorist in chief, he’s working for the terrorist in a cave. To quote the quarter ton carpet Hoover, “what difference does it make?”

Bring them home until there is an America to fight for, and an American leading us again.

Training Muslims to kill Americans.

I suppose that makes sense to Obama, I call it treason.

He is doing the same thing in Libya.

Could somebody please refresh my memory as to why we are still over there?

I'll piece this together as best I can. We invaded to kill Al Qaeda. History has shown that trying to hold Afghanistan is a fool's game so Bush left about 30,000 troops to keep the cities from falling then invaded Iraq which brought out all the "foreign fighter" terrorists into a battlefield of our choosing. We killed them in large numbers.

Enter the Junior Senator from Illinois, who ran on the platform that Afghanistan was the "good war" and Iraq was the "bad war." Once he got elected by a bunch of glassy eyed hopey-dopey addicts his staff worked to make the campaign platform a reality. They abandoned Iraq, making sure to rub everyone's noses in it on the way out the door, thus guaranteeing the failure we are watching unfold now.

They surged Afghanistan up to 100,000 troops even though the whole population was against us, the government of Afghanistan was corrupt beyond repair and the supply lines couldn't support it. We then set a dead line for withdraw, ensuring that our enemies didn't lose faith.

We built up an Afghan army that is now trained and equipped and completely unsustainable. It will flip the moment the last American chopper lifts off, thus ensuring the humiliating defeat of this generation of Americans and fulfilling the most fervent dreams of all liberals since September 2001 - creating another Vietnam.

Did I miss anything?
