Obamacare's real kink - fuzzy math
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | October 21, 2013 | By Debora J. Saunders

At an event on Monday to boost the Affordable Care Act after its glitch-rich rollout, President Obama asserted that his signature health care plan is a hit because "prices have come down." That's the administration's big lie: that Washington can mandate universal health care with beefed-up benefits and somehow the plan will save everyone money.

I've been hearing from healthy Californians who were kicked off their private plans because of Obamacare and were informed they would have to pay much higher premiums on Affordable Care Act exchanges. It could be that his family's boon spells a financial hit for healthy individuals who had good affordable health care before Obamacare.

The White House doesn't hold events with families who have been harmed by Obamacare. The president had promised Americans that if they liked their heath care plans, they could keep them. But the president doesn't read letters from people who feel they were betrayed and deceived.

Voters never should have believed that Washington could provide more benefits, to millions more Americans and still people would pay less. That thinking, not computer glitches, is the real "kink in the system" of Obamacare.

0bamDontCare is plenty kinky.

It will take some serious, targeted, high energy twerks to straighten it out in time.

ObamaCare may have worked in Kenya but I just don’t see it working here. It’s so Third Worldish.

Look, the principal reason that people were un-insured was that health care had become too expensive. This legislation has done nothing to change that. Quite the contrary.

Remember when Reagan became president and we started hearing about the homeless? What do you think the reaction would have been if he had rammed through legislation requiring everyone to buy a house?

“Step right up and get your free lunch! All you have to do is vote Democrat, and you get a free lunch! Free sandwiches made from free bread from the free supermarket where free stockers put the bread on the racks. And the supermarket got the free bread from the free food wholesaler whose free employees used free propane to power the free forklift that loaded the free bread onto the free transport truck that’s powered with free diesel made by the free employees at the free refinery. The free wholesaler got the free bread from the free bakers at the free bakery that used free natural gas to bake the free bread. They received the free wheat to make the free bread in free train cars pulled by free railroad engines controlled by free engineers. They got the free bread from free grain wholesaler who got it from free farmers who harvested it with free combines made by free employees at a free plant. The combines also run on free diesel made by free refinery workers who bought the oil from free oil companies whose free employees freely searched for free oil using free technology developed by free engineers. Everything’s free!”

Insurance companies get to set prices for a product that everybody has to purchase, and they can’t turn away bad risks. What could possibly go wrong?

Death spiral for Obamacare.

ObamaCare is a government program - they never die.

Death spiral for health care, perhaps, but not for ObamaCare.

Correct. Government entitlements never die. They just become a means to the further election of Democrats.

Maybe, as some suspect, this is just a stepping stone into single payer? At some point, the two sides will have to address the whole issue of healthcare again. The Democrats will blame the Obamacare fiasco on insurance companies and call for single payer. The Republicans will blame the president and offer no plan of their own. As usual, the media will declare the Democrats the winners. Out of the frying pan, into the fire.

Of course it’s a stepping stone to Single Payer.

The government totally screws up it’s attempt to partially take over the nations health care system so what could be more logical than giving them a 100% monopoly over the entire system to smooth out the glitches.

To create a demand for single payer, you have to destroy the current system. Obamacare will achieve that unless shredded NOW....

The Rats talking points is your premium would have tripled without obammacare, so thankfully you are saving money since the premium only doubled.

There are thousands of pissed off true believers on the obamacare facebook site. I have no sympathy for the fools who supported this scumbag. It was quite entertaining to see them get punched in the head by reality. This won't end good for the D rats. They stirred up a hornets nest with their huge lies.

John Cleese has a nugget for this at YouTube:

Q: How many Socialists does it take to change a light bulb?

A: "We're not changing it—it's working".
