CURL: Wake up, Virginia! You’re about to suffer four horrible years
The Washington Times ^ | 20 October 2013 | Joseph Curl

The dirty black-glassed building smooshed up against the Beltway's Mixing Bowl interchange does not look like the campaign headquarters of a winner.

The underground garage is all but shuttered for renovation; the candidate’s office is hard to find on the old-timey building sign (he’s just above the office for adult orthodontics, just below Bob’s Barber Shop); the elevator will give even the most fearless rider a jolt of claustrophobic fear as the doors close.

Inside is no better: The headquarters is tiny, but even still, all but empty. Sad pictures of state buildings dot the white walls; soiled and mismatched chairs fill a makeshift conference room; a half-empty box of Dunkin’ Donuts sits on the floor. On the window, scrawled in black marker, is: “19 DAYS.” There is no water, no coffee; a sign in the bathroom reminds users to unlock the door when they leave (which they have to do anyway to get out).

The sixth-floor office belongs to Ken Cuccinelli, Republican candidate for governor of Virginia. He is losing by more than 7 percentage points in an average of all recent polls; Politico puts him down by 9.

His opponent: The horribly flawed Terry McAuliffe, moneyman for the Clintons, native New Yorker, resident of posh McLean. And yet, Mr. Cuccinelli, former state senator and attorney general, graduate of the University of Virginia, lawyer, engineer, Catholic (father of seven), continues to fall further behind with each poll.

Last week, a handful of reporters and editors swung by the campaign headquarters for a chat. Mr. Cuccinelli entered to see most of the visitors in suits. “Sorry I didn’t wear a tie,” he said. But he was wearing a tie; he wasn’t wearing a jacket. An odd opening.

Politically, Virginia and Maryland are merely wholly-owned subsidiaries of DC....

It would really be a ratification of utterly stupid, rampant corruption for McAuliffe to be elected. He offers absolutely nothing to Virginia and has nothing at all to offer the state. He’s purely an imported plastic figure of zero substance and avaricious intent.

Cuccinelli really screwed this one up. He’s not campaigning like he wants to win! Reminds me of Mr. Macaca, George Allen.

FIGHT, KEN!!!

How exactly is this useful? Some of us are working hard to win this. The Cuccinelli campaign because conservatives haven’t did their part in funding this race is behind. This is not the time to do a “why did we lose” analysis because we haven’t yet and won’t if people donate, volunteer, and show support. We can win this but not with people content to point fingers while the battle still is raging.

He is fighting. He’s campaigning all across Virginia. He’s ran his campaign exactly like McDonnell. The missing part is the money. Allowing McAuliffe and the Democrats to totally win the money war is shameful and not for our establishment GOP but for us.

Is McDonnell not helping Cuccinelli with his own money?

I agree. Ken is fighting.

He needs money and media.

He’ll never get the media.

He needs 10x the money of any liberal opponent.

McAuliffe’s job is to use all means at his disposal to keep Virginia Blue in 2016.

Throwing it’s electoral votes to Hillary Clinton.

This race, and the massive outside support he’s received, isn’t really about McAuliffe ...

“He offers absolutely nothing to Virginia and has nothing at all to offer the state. He’s purely an imported plastic figure of zero substance and avaricious intent.”

Not true. He is a very well connected democrat at the highest levels. This means he can bring big bucks into ventures like solyndra and big govt. grants and earmarks.

He will be a corrupt boon economically (to the detriment of the rest of the USA and the children and grandchildren of the USA) but big govt. checks is what the voters want and he can deliver on that.

McDonnell has did enough with the star scientific mess. I’m sure McDonnell has contributed but the big problem is Cuccinelli isn’t getting the kind of coverage needed to drive the small donations he needs. Things have been improving a lot. Each day people are waking up.

Cuccinelli doesn’t want to come within 50 miles of McDonnell. McDonnell is getting ready to be indicted on corruption charges. They’re just waiting until after the election to charge him. It all involves that Johnnie Williams traded money for favoritism by McDonnell. He also gave money to Cuccinelli. Terry McAuliffe is doing the same thing to Virginia that Hillary did to NY. Hell, I expect to see McAuliffe run for president in a few years.

A large part of the GOP is shunning Cuccinelli, as they supported Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling, who was out-manuevered by Cuccinelli when it was decided to have a Convention, and not a primary. So a lot of the Squishes are sitting this one out. . .

Bill Bolling pulling a Dick Lugar no doubt, telling his supporters behind the scenes to punish Cuccinelli.

I am sorry, but Dick Lugar didn’t lose the Senate race for Republicans Mourdock did, I was there.

While his sentiment of his statement on rape/abortion wasn’t mean to be bad..

It was clearly spun that way and definitely took down the Republican ticket a bit...

We need to be smarter while we still hold to conservative/constitutional principles!

Oh, I agree, but Lugar did badmouth Mourdock to his RINO supporters. He hated having his precious seat taken from him.

Point taken.

Less than perfect comparison notwithstanding, Bolling *is* that big of a dick that he'd likely want to do what he can to torpedo Cucinnelli's campaign, even if it means putting Virginia through four years of The Punk.

Sounds familiar. Ask about the brouhaha when George Allen mistakenly called a plant for his opponent wearing a “Mandinka” style haircut, a “Macaca” style. . .

Suddenly, at least according to the Washingon ComPost, Allen had compared the guy to a Macaque monkey, and by default, that ALL dark-skinned people were “monkeys” in his eyes. . . .

Gotta love that Lefty Spin-cycle!

IOW, the perfect uninformed voter’s choice.

I saw a clip of each on the news last night. Someone needs to give Cucinelli (sp?)some Red Bull. I have seen him on TV quite a few times, and he has always come across as articulate and passionate. Not in this clip. The scum McAwful, on the other hand, looked smooth and polished.

Quite possible, of course, that the editing of the clips was done intentionally to make KC look bad.
