interesting looking at all the faults.
taffy stretching almost.
Stay safe and alert. How far is it to higher ground? You might want to plan an evac route to higher ground including a meet up location and have a well stocked bug-out bag handy, just in case. Know the signs of a tsunami is the ocean receding from the beach.
I know they said you are protected by other islands from the open pacific, and I'm no expert and of limited knowledge, but with your unique geology, is seems possible of an plate shifting and causing a tsunami on either side of that island your on.
I don't mean to alarm. I've enjoyed our chats here and just wish to caution you to be on the safe side. :)
I didn’t know two subduction zones could exist in such close proximity and converging upon each other, with a tiny wedge of a plate in between them. Must be really interesting deeper below.
must be, the creaking and groaning going on

Yes, I know about tsunamis, and what to watch for, but I have not received any expert information about our vulnerability. There were tsunami watches issued, even from the big Japan quake, but they may have been pointed at the outer islands with Pacific exposure.
I did see a photo of some tsunami damage on Negros in the past, and it should be less vulnerable then we are.
I just do not envision damage as seen in Ocean tsunamis such as in Japan, Indonesia, and Thailand.
Elevation here increases rapidly, less then a quarter mile.
My municipality is home to the highest point on Cebu, Osmena peak, 3100 feet.
So far, no quakes in the last four hours.
Thanks Errant.
Israel is situated along the Syrian-African rift, a tear in the earths crust running the length of the border separating Israel and Jordan, and is part of the Great Rift Valley, which extends from northern Syria to Mozambique. Thanks Errant.
The opening of the Great Rift, or its further expansion, accompanied by the overturning of the plain and the origin of the Dead Sea, was a catastrophe that ended an era. In my understanding the end of the Early Bronze Age or the Old Kingdom in Egypt coincided with these events.
So, unless you are a devout christian your post is BS. OK, got it. Geography defeated by fanatics.
How about the earthquake lights phenomenon. If the fish are right over and close to the fault line when the high energy piezoelectric charge goes off it may give them more than a headache.
The “Sea of Galilee” has been called the “Sea of Galilee” for hundreds and hundreds of years, both by the religious of all persuasions and unbelievers. “The Sea of Galilee” has a nice ring to it. Get over it...
Good point. You may have something there.
Wall of rock rises out of the ground in the Philippines: new fault triggered large quake
October 24, 2013 PHILIPPINES As the magnitude 7.2 earthquake ended on Oct. 15, residents of Sitio Kumayot in Barangay Anonang heard an explosive sound like a thunderclap. Villagers watched in horrified disbelief as the ground cracked open and, with smoke and the stench of sulphur spreading, one side started to rise. The emerging wall of rock and earth missed by a hairline the toilet of baker Menecia Bautista Aparecio, 43. We will be living forever in fear, being so close to the fault line, said Aparecio, who fears returning to her home and now bakes her pan Bisaya or pan kinamot, a local bread, in the village chapel. The rock face, about three meters high and two kilometers long, raised fears among villagers that more cracks would appear on the ground and swallow them up. Scientists, who may declare a 300-meter permanent danger zone around the fault, described the appearance of the ground rupture as a eureka moment in their search for what they have long suspected was an active earthquake fault in the area. Government scientists said the appearance of the yet unnamed fault, which does not exist on the countrys map of fault lines, triggered the powerful earthquake in Central Visayas. We are 100 percent sure that this is the generator (of the earthquake), Teresito Bacolcol told GMA 7 as he noted that the rock face appeared near the quakes epicenter at the boundary of Sagbayan and Catigbian towns. When we saw (the fault), eureka! This is it. Bacolcol led a team from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), which inspected the rock face last Monday. We recommend that no structures should be built on top of a fault and within the five-meter buffer zone on both sides of the fault, Phivolcs director Renato Solidum told The STAR. He also urged the local government of Bohol to revise its land use policy around the fault. -Philstar
I need a motocycle:)
thanks, no I hadn’t seen these pics. all i had seen were some minor damage from old buildings and read about the Bohol fault being a thrust fault and vertical movement.
many thanks
makes sense now with the position of the aftershocks and the lack of known faults on Bohol, the only previously recorded fault being the East Fault that runs NE to SW on the Philippine PHIVOLCS site.
to me it looks more like the ground sank at that fault than rose.?
hmmm, if this was our govt. they’d tax the “extra” land that was exposed.
LOL...that is very true.
October 25, 2013 KAMCHATKA A new explosive eruption started yesterday night (23 Oct). An ash plume was detected drifting at an estimated 16,000 ft (5 km) altitude and drifting ESE. At least 1 mm of ash has been deposited in the Nalychevo valley, a natural park between Zhupanovsky and Avachinsky volcanoes. Zhupanovsky volcano lies about 70 km northeast of the capital of Kamchatka, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, and had its last eruption in 1959. It is a complex volcano composed of several overlapping cones aligned on a roughly east-west oriented axis. The new eruption comes from the same vent that has been also the site of all known historical eruptions, located west of the highest point of the volcanic massif. Zhupanovsky is the 8th volcano in Kamchatka to erupt this year. Volcano Discovery
I'm still predicting 100 by the end of '13. ;-)
