With His Premiums More Than Doubling, This Dad Would “Rather File Bankruptcy” Than Deal with O

Ben Neptun and his wife Charla are “furious” their family’s health insurance premium will be raised from $419 to $899 per month because of Obamacare.

“We will absolutely go in a hole with this change,” Ben said.

Ben, 36, and Charla, 34, are both home health nurses in Mobile, Alabama. They each make about $23 an hour and have spent the last year learning how to budget and recover from debt acquired in previous marriages. With a blended family of five—a 15-year-old, a 2-year-old, and a 10-month-old—Ben said “there’s no room for several hundred dollars extra per month” in their budget.

The Neptun family buys their insurance directly from Blue Cross Blue Shield and spends about $2,000 a year on health care for the family, not including the monthly premium. So when Ben received a letter from Blue Cross explaining health insurance rates were increasing to comply with the new Obamacare regulations, he was angry. The new regulations in Obamacare force healthy families like his to “spend a boatload for nothing,” he explained.

Mandated liability insurance had the same affect on auto insurance, and each mandated requirement sends costs up. All the insurance companies have to meet minimum mandates from Obamacare, and prices go up. In many instances people are paying for insurance they don’t need, and they will be paying more in deductibles for the healthcare they do get. Back in the day when Obama had to borrow money to get into the Democratic Convention, he couldn’t have afforded what is being forced on Americans.

From a pro Obamacare website ,, it seems bankruptcy does exempt you... if you didn’t mind “going Galt” and living on a cash basis you could play this exempt game for a few years at least... I think he or his wife should develop a back problem and go on disability.

Another set of Obamacare exemptions focus on individuals facing “hardships,” which includes being homeless, being in jail, recently filing for bankruptcy, being a recent victim of domestic violence, or having been evicted in the past six months. Individuals are also exempt from Obamacare penalties if they experience a lapse in health coverage of less than three months in a calendar year. And non-US citizens are of course exempt.

They can always run the numbers and see if divorce would work to their benefit...I’ve read that that could be an alternative.

Obamacare - ruining the family - one at a time - until they are all gone....

The premimum’s are going up because all the policy’s have to be the same. One size fits all. They needed the woman’s vote so they mandated all policy’s must include maternity care and newborn care, plus free mammograms and contraceptives. I think they all have to include mental disease treatment and rehab treatment. All the same, whether you are 27 or 97 man or woman, married or single maternity care, newborn care, etc has to be included, they did it for the women!

People who work will not be able to get that boat, or build that deck, or get a new car. The money will go for health care for those who do not work. THIS is called ‘fairness’.
