Exclusive--Poll: VA Gov Race A Toss Up

A new poll, provided exclusively to Breitbart News, finds the Virginia Governor's race a virtual dead-heat, with Democrat Terry McAuliffe leading Republican Ken Cuccinelli 41%-40%. Libertarian Robert Sarvis garners 10% and 9% of likely voters remain undecided. With less than two weeks to go, the race is a toss-up that will likely be decided by turnout, a critical factor in an off-year election.

The poll comes from Wenzel Strategies, which accurately predicted closing momentum for Sens. Ted Cruz, Rand Paul and Deb Fischer, among others. The slight edge McAuliffe holds is due mostly to stronger support within his partisan base. 81% of Democrats support McAuliffe, against just 68% of Republicans who support Cuccinelli.

Cuccinelli's support seems be building, however, has public attention moves away from the recent government shutdown to the failing implementation of ObamaCare. Cuccinelli was a leading national figure suing to overturn the health care law.

The closeness of the race is apparent in the millions spent by left-wing groups to support McAuliffe in the closing days. In addition, Hillary and Bill Clinton, close allies of McAuliffe have made themselves permanent fixtures in the Commonwealth campaign on his behalf.

“There’s a reason the Clintons have been called in to spend a week campaigning for McAuliffe and that Bloomberg is pouring in millions with 2 weeks to go,” Brian Baker, President of Ending Spending Action Fund, which commissioned the poll told Breitbart News. “Their internals must be showing what our poll indicates -- that his unfavorables are high and they must try to suppress Cuccinelli turnout to prevail. All indications are that the numbers are closing, especially post shutdown. The focus will be where the undecideds go and what will Sarvis draw. With the race this close, the poll indicates a vote for Sarvis is a vote for McAuliffe.”

I've seen real momentum the past week as people are waking up to the threat of McAuliffe. I'm going out door to door again today. This is not just a race for Virginia this is a race for conservatives and Republicans everywhere. A loss in VA places this critical swing state in the hands of McAuliffe and the Clintons. It also means a reinforcement of the meme that the Tea Party is dead. We can't let that happen. Please donate anything you can even if it is just $5. Anti-Gun Bloomberg, Planned Parenthood, and a climate change whack job billionaire is boosting McAuliffe with $. If you are in Virginia make sure to get to a campaign office and get a sign in your yard a sticker on your car and if you can offer to volunteer to make calls, do sign waves, or walk door to door. Arm chair patriots aren't going to reclaim America. Victory is not something that arrives it is something you work for. We can win this!

I don’t know what the heck happened to Virginia this past 4 years... but this should not even be close and in Cuccinelli’s favor.

Something happened along the way to change the way this state voted. How the heck did Obama win this state?

Any internals on this poll? I pray Ken wins. That Rasmussen poll earlier this week was a kick in the face.

Sarvis hasn’t a snowballs chance in He!! of winning, but rather than bow out and endorse Cucc, he will, as most liebertarians do, play the contrarian and bring the terri-devil in the door to ‘prove’ why we need liebertarians n power! What twisted minds liebertarians must have.

I hope this poll is accurate, but using the Cruz race as reference is odd. There was little doubt he would win.

This is a better poll ..... let the ‘discouraged’ (after the last poll) know all is not lost IF they get the vote out!!

The Demonicrat Party and their slobbering media sycophants have been in full propaganda mode for quite a few years, now. I believe absolutely NOTHING that is put out by the “news” nowadays.

We need to see “Rasmussen” go out of business. They are in the Obama camp for sure.

Turnout didn’t work for us in NJ. Hopefully Va is more sane.

Cuccinelli should be sending out ads and volunteers to tell Sarvis supporters that Ron Paul is backing Ken.

That Rasmussen poll earlier this week was a kick in the face.

Rasmussen has gone to the dark side, in my opinion. The ambiguous nature of the questions asked allow for very elastic responses.

Nope. We had one flawed single day Sunday poll from Rasmussen which seemingly managed to call everyone but conservative Christians. Quinnipiac which is the poll most recent before this one showed a 7 point lead for McAuliffe.
