“I’ve seen absolutely no improvement in the weeks that we’ve been trying to work through this,”said..Goodwin,a broker who heads the Goodwin Benefits Group in Dallas. “But we have it, and we have to live with it. I’m hoping against hope they will find a way to fix this. I’m just not confident that they can.”
Some insurance agents are advising clients to avoid the federal marketplace altogether unless they think they are eligible for a tax subsidy to offset insurance premiums.
“It’s a shame that it wasn’t tested like it should have been before it was rolled out,”said Rockwall broker Don Walker. “It had been highly advertised and promoted through the media,and rightly so, that a new day was coming in health care.”
BlueCross BlueShield of Texas....has been helping frustrated shoppers and brokers get around the federal marketplace. The company’s own website (bcbstx.com) has a subsidy calculator to indicate eligibility for tax credits and a way for people to purchase the plans it is offering on the federal exchange..........
.....The Texas Medical Association created a website called “Hey Doc”(texmed.org/heydoc/)to handle questions that patients are asking their physicians. Like everyone else, the doctors have had trouble learning for themselves what’s on the federal market site.
Lee Spangler....said the physicians group hopes the federal site becomes friendly enough to answer all of those questions.
“We’d like to see the confusion disappear,”he said. “That’s really all this is—can I get on the website and see what’s there? What are the actual benefits for each plan?”....
“Capturing and keeping the attention of any audience is extremely difficult,”he said. “The launch of the website was critical in getting those young people involved and enrolled....
