Yep, may get down into the lower latitudes. Will be daylight here though. I’ve seen some really amazing ones in Alaska.

Check out the black band on the second pulse on the wind speed model site. Also note the windspeed (the red blob with the white center) on the bottom graph. It misses earth and goes behind us in our orbit.

I guess '03 is the largest recorded on modern instruments:

"Seventeen major flares erupted on the Sun between 19 October and 5 November 2003, including perhaps the most intense flare ever measured on the GOES XRS sensor – a huge X28 flare,[17] resulting in an extreme radio blackout, on 4 November. These flares were associated with CME events which impacted the Earth. The CMEs caused three geomagnetic storms between Oct 29 and November 2 during which the second and third storms were initiated before the previous storm period had fully recovered. The minimum Dst values were -151, -353 and -383 nT. Another storm in this event period occurred on November 4 – 5 with a minimum Dst of -69.nT. The last geomagnetic storm was weaker than the preceding storms because the active region on the Sun had rotated beyond the meridian where the central portion CME created during the flare event passed to the side of the Earth. The whole sequence of events is known as the ‘Halloween Storm’.[18] The Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) operated by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) was offline for approximately 30 hours due to the storm.[19] The Japanese ADEOS-2 satellite was severely damaged and the operation of many other satellites were interrupted due to the storm.[20]"

A buddy worked out of Prudhoe Bay for the company, he said when he first arrived he would get vertigo and sometimes when there weren’t reference points in his line of sight, felt like he was falling into the sky.

That's what you call "Really Big Sky" country then. :-) I was in the Anchorage and Fairbanks areas. Lots of mountains surrounding Anchorage and Fairbanks looks a little like West Texas. I was in Alaska for several years starting in '02. Guess that's why the auroras were so impressive, as '03 was a peak year for CMEs. We also had some pretty large quakes during that time:

Wow, that says something. Maybe one day we’ll see on in La. :-) We may have if the CME from that X2 class eruption hadn’t just missed us. From the looks of it, it may have set a new record.

He also said that pictures and movies of it in no way do it justice, said you have to see it with your own eyes.

I asked him if he ever heard a *crackling* type of sound when it's really active (been reported some people can hear it), he said he never heard that.
He said there was always a diesel engine running for power somewhere.

I agree. The first one I saw looked like some kind of alien ship landing just over a hill. Lots of different colored lights (mostly green) moving about and like any good rednecks, we tried to drive to it. lol Others I’ve seen light up the sky overhead in waves of light. It’s impressive but no sounds that I could hear at the time.

I’ve had this 3D earthquake program for a while. It’s free and available from a few different places on the net as well, but this is the homepage, near as I can tell.

Me too! My allergies have been horrible in AZ for the past month! I usually get them from mid-May to early July, but this year I am also getting them in the fall. I sneeze for about two hours every day when I get to my office (which is out in a desert area). Not sure what it is that’s getting to me this year.
