Remember that really terrible thing you did as a child? Remember telling yourself it could be worse? Well, now you can really mean it.
A 12-year-old boy from Quebec, Canada, pleaded guilty to hacking government and police websites for the hacktivist group Anonymous. (Via Gizmodo)
The fifth grader, who was 11 at the time, was working with Anonymous during the 2012 student uprising in Quebec, where students protested a proposed tuition hike for several months. (Via Vimeo / nate)
The Montreal Police, the Quebec Institute of Public Health and the Chilean government websites were all hacked by the boy. According to police, the boy caused at least $60,000 worth of damage.
Even though he was working for Anonymous, his lawyer contends there was no political motivation behind the hacks. (Via YouTube / Anonymous04210)
He saw it as a challenge. He was only 12 years old. There was no political purpose. (Via Daily Mail)

How much was he paid? Also, is Anonymous exempt from child labor laws?
Governments are in charge because they know best.
I feel the cognitive dissonance...

My 12 year old kid could do this. Thankfully we’ve taught him to respect what doesn’t belong to him.
They may not have paid him anything except praise, which, as I understand it, will be taxable sometime this coming year. /sarc
me thinks they need to lean on this kid then maybe anonymous wont be so anonymous any more. Also, wonder if his parents are involved with anonymous....hmm
child labor laws???
More good news for Obama Care!!!!!
0bamaCare’s sensitive data on you is just this safe.
Only $60,000 worth of damage?
That’s nothing! Our hack of a president has done UNTOLD damage to an entire nation!
My mother has often remarked in horror about how much trouble I would have gotten into if the internet had existed when I was a kid.
Sure it is, the password to the site is: Password
Who’d ever think of that!
Exactly!
Any 6 year old can throw a brick through a shop window and steal or spoil the goods therein.
Hacking & shoplifting are simply slightly more elaborate versions of the brick through the shop window. For a society to survive, its population needs to understand & practice the restraint of covetousness, theft and vandalism, no matter the form they take.
Unfortunately, far too many think "hacking", graffiti and stealing (but only from the "rich", "evil corporations" or "those who can afford it" are "COOL".
Don't get me started on lawyers, tort and "class action" lawsuits.
11 year old? Impressive. I don’t always agree with what Anonymous does but they have done some good things. Enemy of my enemy...
Find out who his handlers are, take ‘em out back and shoot ‘em. Hacking should be a capital crime.
12?? Getting a little long in the tooth for that, isn’t he?
