Penn State has announced that it is paying $59.7 million to 26 young men to settle claims of child sexual abuse at the hands of former assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky.
The university said it had concluded negotiations that have lasted about a year.
The school said 23 deals are fully signed and three are agreements in principle. The school faces six other claims, and the university says it believes some do not have merit while others may produce settlements.

we professorial libtards believe that tolerance is good ... and it sometimes comes with a price!
That’s about a million apiece after taxes................
The money might be tax free if the settlement was meant to make them whole again. That’s the way personal injury suits work in which I have been involved. Of course the lawyer would have to get 40% off the top first.
Thank You President Spanier —
You certainly left your mark at Penn State.
IIRC, Here in Florida I think the lawyers are limited to 36%..................
I’m sure they have insurance and all, but eventually it comes out of tuition, room and board I’ll bet.
I would look at some other schools if I were collegebound.
It is nice to see enabling comes at a price.
The payees must agree not to point out that Sandusky’s targets were exclusively male.
“Im sure they have insurance and all, but eventually it comes out of tuition, room and board Ill bet.”
As it’s a state school, ultimately it would come down to the PA taxpayers.
Really it won’t come to that as it’s basically chump change to a university with a $110 million athletics budget and a $1.8 billion endowment. They’ll borrow and pay it off at low interest over 30 years or so. They’ll barely notice.
I had expected a PENN St. name change by now. Maybe they won’t have to.
Looks like Penn State got taken to the showers.....
Is Sandusky related to Biden? They kinda look alike.
I hope people who choose to go there are bankrupted under the crushing weight of non-dischargable debt. Choosing to spend money with an organization that buggers little boys and then covers it up should have consequences. And all over a damned GAME!
And given the out of control sense of entitlement universities have, that $$$ is gonna ultimately come straight from the pockets of the American people. Which means we are gonna be paying in many more ways than one for that fact that they let these demons in human form do what they did for so long.
Like it or not everybody via ESPN to all sport blogs
PENN State cover up Jerry actions everybody know that
I think you mean President Erickson.
Both —
“...Of course the lawyer would have to get 40% off the top first...”
So to get their “compensation”, they have to take it up the butt one more time.
More pollution of the courts (jury pool in GS, GS, and TC trial - and judge in Paterno/Lettermen/Faculty vs. NCAA) by current PSU administration and 11-11 b.o.t. (including governor corbett)
Coincidence that we get this common knowledge announcement today, when tomorrow at 10AM the judge hears the Paterno/Lettermen arguments? Can’t have it go to discovery, or all hell breaks loose.
Considering their actions, these people must be hiding something very bad, and it has nothing to do with the athletic department. It has everything to do with the second mile though.
“It is nice to see enabling comes at a price.”
But what about all the other guys? Sandusky I am sure was not the only one.
“As its a state school, ultimately it would come down to the PA taxpayers.”
Penn St is not a state school.
